"You were flirting," Kageyama says, sounding bewildered, almost accusatory. His chest is heaving under Hinata's hands.

Hinata laughs. "Yeah, and it worked."

(Alternate summary: Hinata and Kageyama meet for the first time since high school and it becomes immediately apparent that Kageyama is a) really hot and b) really into him.)

    Summary

'There was their third year, when there was something going on between them, even if it couldn't really be categorized (Yamaguchi referred to it as "complicated", Tsukishima preferred "a fucking disaster"). Kageyama hadn't forgotten, but he'd basically barely been able to look Hinata in the eye the entire day, until he finally asked if Hinata wanted to get food after practice. So Hinata's present that year had still been meat buns, plus one popsicle. Started from the bottom, as they say.'

Kageyama has prepared a surprise for Hinata’s birthday.

    Summary

Hinata mumbles something, then, too low and hidden in breath for Kageyama to hear it and he stalks a few steps closer, bends down and pinches the tip of Hinata’s nose.

“Speak up,” he says, and tries to ignore the weird fluttery feeling swelling his chest when Hinata crosses his eyes to stare, affronted, at Kageyama’s fingers.

“I said,” Hinata swats Kageyama’s hand away from his face and pushes his hands down between his thighs, “I want to top this time.”

    Summary

Hinata is really, really good at remembering birthdays.

He’s not so good at remembering much, honestly, but he knows all the birthdays of all the people that matter: his mum, Natsu, Izumi and Kouji, every character in his favourite tv show, Sugawara and Daichi, Nishinoya and Tanaka...it’s a very, impossibly long list.

So it’s...odd, embarrassing, really, that at no point on that very, impossibly long list, does it remind him that Kageyama’s birthday is on the twenty second of December, or that the twenty second of December is today.

    Summary

“Best out of seven,” Hinata says, after losing his third round of rock-paper-scissors in a row. Kageyama, for his part, looks incredibly unphased, which is frustrating to no end because Hinata is sweating, eyes narrowed and tongue poking out between his teeth as he concentrates.

Kageyama has chosen rock three times now. It follows that Hinata should maybe choose paper instead of scissors, this time, because Kageyama is bound to pick rock again, but—but maybe that’s what he wants Hinata to think. Lull him into a false sense of security, perhaps, and then he’ll swoop in with scissors and steal another victory, and so—

“On three, yeah?” Hinata says, clenching his fist. Kageyama nods, bored, and pointedly adjusts the waistband of his sweats. Yes, Hinata thinks, eyeing the tented fabric; he’s impatient too, but he is also stubborn, and very, very hungry to win.
