To date, my favourite StarsAndStitches story. Hot young Greg and hot young Mycroft meet on the road on a summer’s day, one’s on a motorbike, one’s in a Jag. Guess which is which...

    Summary

It's Christmas time – and Greg teaches his Mycroft about baking, family and love. (Pure fluff, I'm afraid)

The smell that greeted him dragged Mycroft into an oriental bazaar in a heartbeat. Instead of the pristine, almost clinical atmosphere he had expected of his home, an abundance of scents was striking his nostrils. Ginger and cinnamon, predominantly. Nutmeg, cardamom, aniseed. Something baking in the oven. Warm and spicy and oh so alluring! A rough male voice drifted from the kitchen singing “Angels From the Realms of Glory”, slightly out of tune. It smelled (and sounded)... like Christmas.
Dumbstruck, Mycroft put his briefcase on the sideboard in the hall. He barely noticed that he took off his coat and scarf as well. When had his house ever felt so much like a home?

Wherein we witness the trials triumphs and tribulations of Mycroft Holmes, aged 11.

It's summer, it's the 1980s. The young Holmeses spend a night out star-gazing, because young Sherlock loves the stars like he loves his brother Mycroft.

    From chapter 5:

God, it was dark! Really dark! The rope scraped against Mycroft's forearm and thigh as he moved along it. The rough contact through the fabric of his jeans and jumper acted as an anchor in the pitch-black sea surrounding him, and he found his breathing quietening down a bit. A few feet across the roof, he heard a small voice behind him, “Mycroft...?”

“I'm here, Sherlock. It's all fine. I shan't be long.”

The night air carried a minute whiny noise that Sherlock would probably later vigorously deny to have made. Mycroft suppressed a sigh, turned and scrambled back to where his brother sat in the open window.

“It's dark,” said Sherlock timidly. Being a tough pirate was really hard sometimes, it seemed.

    Summary

For Mycroft Holmes, Valentine's Day cannot be over too soon. A little bit of chocolate however, is always welcome to sweeten his day.

    From chapter 5:
The evening breeze from the ocean brings a new scent Mycroft recognises at once. On top of the smells of the natural world, there is this certain aftershave. And when he opens his eyes he can also see him. Gregory, Dream-Gregory in all his glory, is approaching him from the foaming surf at a leisurely pace, much like Real-Gregory did at the airport.
He has been swimming, water still glistening on his bronze skin. A towel is slung around the back of his neck, his hands gripping the ends of it firmly. And he's wearing nothing but Bermuda swimming trunks with a vivid pattern of unnaturally-coloured palm trees. No! No, no, no! This won't do! Take those off, Gregory! Dream-Gregory gets a bit blurred, and when the focus is restored, the swimming trunks have been transformed into shimmering black ones, a bit low on the hips, and he's wearing sunglasses. Mycroft sighs with relief. Better, much better.

    Summary

A little piece about how Sherlock perceives himself and his flatmate. Dated some time before the fall. Sherlock did not delete the stars here. My first fan fiction.

There was the man who was the midnight sky. Velvety blackness with sparkling sequins strewn across. Aloof. Alien. Cold. Considered beautiful by some who looked up at night, enchanted by the meadows of twinkling lights against the dark background.
    ...
Stars were also dying, of course. Some were cooling down to oblivion with a small resigned sigh. Some terminated their performance with an orgasmic explosion of plasma and colour that the humans would call 'supernova'. 'Amazing', they would say when they spotted it. The man had done that, too. Aeons ago, on a small insignificant planet, some place called Sussex. Lying next to his brother and gazing up, filled with wonder. His brother? How could the night sky have a brother?

    Bookmarker's Notes

A striking and original tale combining astrophysics, astrology and the cosmos - written like a piece of celestial poetry with Sherlock and John woven into it. This story got me from the very first line. Beautifully written.
