Summary
The first time she meets him, he's nothing more than an almost-missed appointment.
~~~
Dean is silent for a long, tense moment, then he gruffly says, "It's not for banishing the angels. It's to summon them. So, it doesn't—it's not to get rid of 'em, but to draw 'em in."
Mitzi can't help but glance up at him at that. His voice is so heavy with so much unexplained pain, and she doesn't understand why, or what angels have to do with it. She knows religion can impact people. She's very aware that it can get complicated, and that it can be a huge source of pain for someone, but Dean sounds grievously wronged, somehow, as if it's a truly personal thing.
She pushes through, focusing back on her job, clearing her throat before murmuring, "Well, I guess we all want angels to visit us sometimes."
"Just the one," Dean mumbles.
"Your guardian angel?" Mitzi asks.
Dean breathes out, "Something like that. As close to one as an angel will ever get."
Summary
[3/10/24-I'm still alive. Just on a very long hiatus lol. School is pain]
First, it had been Juniper and Dylan. Those in District 7 stood with their mouths gaped open in shock and barely repressed rage as they watched the two teenagers get reaped for the 66th Hunger Games. Out of fear and denial, they tried to chalk it up to chance. After all, there was no way those kids had been picked.But when Cynthia and Jasper were reaped the following year they could no longer deny it. This had nothing to do with chance. It was all by design. They were being chosen for a very specific purpose—to send a message to the district.
By the time Willow and Finley had been reaped, everyone had come to expect it. The only consolation was that most families didn’t have to worry about their children getting sent to their deaths. They weren’t on what had been deemed the list.
And so, by the time the 69th Hunger Games came around, Halle Croft knew she was next.
Because she was the only one left.
Summary
“This place you have,” You said. “It’s secure?”
“Yeah.” He scoffed, as if the question offended him. “Th’prison about three miles west.”
The prison. You were much farther south than you’d thought.
“I can take ya there, but you’ve gotta answer some questions first.”
Now, without his crossbow in your face and the undead approaching, you could properly look the archer over. He was dressed practically, long dark sleeves and pants under a worn leather vest. He knew how to blend in. Probably a hunter based on the weapon and how easily he’d snuck up on your little camp.
He wasn’t terribly tall, but he looked strong–the shirt tight around his arms and chest. He kept his expression stony, but he continued to hold your gaze, blue eyes locked in on your own. He was a man who’d done things and seen even more.
But then so had you.Bookmarked by TheRedHeadedQueen
