Summary
All he wanted was a Happily Ever After. That's all he strives for when he was stuck on paper work, meetings, and praised balls for two long years. All Steven wanted was to finally relax and step away from the very throne and shadow that Pink Diamond, believing that all of her mess was finally cleaned up once and for all. That changed though when he met Spinel.
The last piece of Pink's mistake. She was a best friend, a playmate, a toy that Pink never cared for and left behind. Her anger was valid and her pain was horrible. Steven tried to save the one last mistake that his mother had made, but he slipped. At the top of the injector, his life in the balance of a gem that wanted him dead, the diamond hybrid gave up.
Why brother to fight someone when you don't even want to fight. He was tried of trying to fix Pink's mistakes. Trying to live up to rose Quartz when he felt nothing for her. Steven had given up, but that didn't mean that the others did as well. The Crystal Gems race to find the two and bring the boy they love back home.Will they save steven and Spinel? Are they too late to save them from their own darkness? Or really... are they just wrong for each other?

We met at Kevin's party, right after I had lost my friendship with Connie. I honestly can't remember mush of it, since I think someone spiked mt drink with something. Still, I remember seeing his face when he pulled me away from Kevin's big friends. How concern he was for me, and helped me home when I couldn't fully remember how to. Even though I forgot most of that night, not even his eyes. We meet again at the Library, right after I returned a few books I had. It was so natural, like I was talking to him for ages though we only just met. He works there, and he enjoys reading almost any kind of story. We share our likes and dislikes, passions and talents, even what food we have in common. His eyes were so surreal to me. I finally noticed his hair too, how soft it was as well as color.
I told him more about me, about my gem and the world I live in. He's so different from others. He's there for me, he tries hard to understand me and I try to be there for him too. We grew close, and I feel safe around him. Even on worst days, he somehow makes me smile. My hearts beats so much and he makes me blush and laugh at his silly nature. What was this? Why with him do I feel happy?

The screen lit up, and the three Diamonds all said almost in unison that they had lost Spinel.
Steven looked unamused.
"Yeah. And I found her."
He stepped back, revealing Spinel from behind himself. The pink little gem gave a weak little smile. Maybe things weren't about to go horribly wrong after all?
"Oh, thank goodness she's there." White exclaimed, holding her hands to her chest and her forehead in a dramatic manner. "Spinel, we got sooooo worried that we had lost you. We couldn't bear to think we could have had the same story happen to us all over and over again!"
"Sure seems like it already did."Spinel said in such a drastically deeper and grimmer tone that even Steven, who sat down on the floor next to her, leaned back and raised his hand up, elbow out.

The point of the fanfic is to have Steven be the one who desperately needs Spinel, and cares about her, noticing slightest changes in her mood and caring to keep her happy. Just like she did about him, and just like she wished he did about her.

Steven knows he's plagued with intrusive images of the past and all the sadness that comes with them, but he is also falling physically ill, much to the dismay of his friends and family. The more he tries to deny himself, his needs, and his emotions, the more it's clear that his physical illness is much more serious than any of them could have ever expected.
