    Summary

Mirio and Tamaki were caught in each other’s gravity. Inseparable friends, they brought out the best in each other, understood each other like no one else could. Together, they inspired each other to go above and beyond.

    But they weren’t soulmates.

And Tamaki seemed to be the only person in the world who cared.

Like everyone else on the planet, Amajiki Tamaki was born with a Mark.

Unfortunately, he was also born with his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, while stuck in the back of a car trapped in heavy traffic.

Normally, documenting the Mark was one of the first things the OB staff did, but in this case, Amajiki Fukuyasu’s only concern was unraveling the cord from his son’s neck. The moment Tamaki took his first desperate breath of air, his barely noted Mark disappeared.

    And it never came back.

    Summary

Reiner knows what Armin wants from him. It’s in the sweet little smiles he shoots his way, or the tentative thanks for carrying one heavy thing or another to the small office Commander Erwin had set up for him. He smells sweet, and his touch lingers. He tucks his hair behind his ears, exposing a neck covered with faded scars—a challenge.

Reiner is not truly afraid of anyone in the Survey Corps, but he does not want the protective wrath of Eren Jaeger bearing down upon him. He means to tell Armin this. He really does.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Reiner knows what Armin Arlert wants from him. He brings Reiner warm meals when the sun goes down and keeps him company after Captain Levi has run them ragged in the fields for the day. He spends time with his pack, lets Mikasa fuss over him while he fusses over Eren in turn. He laughs with Sasha and Connie at dinner, nods and agrees with Jean’s frustrated rants, and bows his head over papers with the Commander and Levi. But at the end of the day, it’s Reiner he returns to, happily shouldering his way onto whatever space is free—chair, floor, he does not seem to mind—and just exists. They’ve always been friendly, but there’s an unspoken comfort between the two of them now that Reiner enjoys, even if it really is just a seduction tactic.

    Summary

“How do you feel about Captain Levi?” Eren asks him, over dinner.

Strangely and suddenly anxious, Armin answers a question with a question. “How do you feel about Captain Levi?”

“I care about him,” Eren says, without hesitation.

“Good, so do I.” Armin sputters, pushing brussels sprouts around on his plate with laser focus.

“I think he cares about you, too. I think he cares about you a lot.”

“He cares about all of us,” Armin protests, weakly.

    Bookmarker's Notes

There is something precious in the softness of Armin Arlert.

He is no pushover, to be sure. He’s a terror with a gun, and dangerous when given time to plan. And now, with the power of the Colossal Titan residing within him, he is a veritable weapon. Despite this, he’s retained a fairly demure nature. He’s all polite smiles and considerate suggestions, and with Levi, he’s hair tucked behind ears and hesitant hand holding. He can carry his own books, and he knows good and well when his body is being pushed to its limits, but he allows Levi to fuss over him anyway—seems to revel in it, if the blushing cheeks and bitten lips are any indication.

But he’s no angel, and Levi has learned this well, over the months. The young man is plays into his strengths with cheerful efficiency, leaving his buttons undone and, today, coming to a meeting with kiss-bitten lips. He looks at Levi from underneath his eye lashes, smirking when he knows he has Levi’s attention.

Levi gives him a look that hopefully conveys the amount of trouble he is in, but the kid probably takes it as a challenge.

"Perhaps our Chinese women are stronger than your Western women," Mei said. "China's lung-zi were all men once, too, long ago, but now hardly any are. I am sure that our women could not be kept from fighting; they are fierce warriors, and even if they were not allowed to fight, as your women are not, they would find a way. Hua MuLan dressed as a man and went to fight for Emperor Tang Xuanzong, after all."

Frank shrugged. “You look like one.”

    "What’s a key?”

“Ah.” Sarah held up a finger like she was teaching a class. “Becoming a wolf isn’t easy, especially when you first learn how. You get the ability when you’re around nine or ten, but actually doing it takes a lot of concentration. But you want to be able to do it instantly, right? In case of emergency, break glass and release wolf.”

    Frank chuckled.

“That’s where the key comes in. It’s a line of poetry, or a proverb or a quote—anything, really, so long as it’s about wolves and it’ll suit you for your entire life. You don’t want to be stuck with ‘Who’s afraid of the Big Bad Wolf’ when you’re forty.” She laughed. “David and Zach use different lines from the same poem. It goes, ‘This is the law of the jungle, as old and as true as the sky…’”

“‘And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.’”

Sarah blinked owlishly at him over the rim of her glass. “You sure you’re not one of us?”
