    Bookmarker's Notes

Shiro’s thoughts grind to a halt and he drops into an instinctive crouch as his vision narrows to a flicker of movement up ahead, in the middle of a cheerfully bubbling brook. He stares. There’s no other possible reaction to the sight of the centaur standing knee-deep in the water – are those their knees? Ankles? Shiro’s head hurts – the equine half of their body a startling, bright red roan, pelt fading into tanned skin and the arch of a leanly muscled back and rolling shoulders.

The centaur appears to be washing the mud and dust off their legs, idly kicking up their hooves to splash the water up where it slicks down over their chest, some droplets landing upon dark hair which tumbles to their shoulders and curls at the nape of their neck. They’re young, Shiro thinks – he would guess mid-twenties if they were human. Then they turn, revealing a sharp, beautiful profile, dark-lashed eyes and parted lips, the illusion of innocent beauty marred by the slashed scar across the right side of their jaw, ending just below their right eye.

    Summary

AU from 5.18 (or thereabouts). Castiel awakens in the middle of a smoking crater, stranded and very much human. According to the people who have discovered him, it’s six months to the day after Michael and Lucifer faced off on the field of battle outside of Detroit, and Castiel isn’t the only one to have returned. When, at his insistence, they take him to this other person, he finds a child –a little boy– and realizes that, contrary to all his expectations, he has been reunited with Dean Winchester.
The world has changed in their absence, and not for the better. Sam is gone, whether dead or simply missing is uncertain. Castiel is given the name of a man in Idaho who may have answers for him. He is faced with the task of travelling cross-country with Dean, who is dependent on him now in ways he never was before, in order to discover the truth. But along the way, as he and Dean learn to know and trust each other once more, Castiel begins to realize that the answers he thought he wanted might not be the ones he needs.

Later people will tell him that it was like watching lightning, or a meteor strike. No one quite has the words to describe it, save that there was a brilliant flash of light in the sky, that seemed for a moment to set the heavens themselves on fire.

When Castiel opens his eyes, the first thing he sees is the tiny silhouette of a raven, circling high above him in the brilliant white sky. He blinks, realizes in doing so that he is still very much human, and experiences a moment of disappointment so bitter he nearly chokes. He stares up at the sky, doesn't remember ever seeing it so white, pristine and beautiful, until he understands that what he's seeing isn't clouds, but a blanket of ash that spreads as far as the eye can see, spilling over the horizon and down over the earth.

No, these dreams were about eating.

    Meat, specifically.

The smell, the feel, the physicality of it. The chewing, the sinking of his teeth, the burst of warm blood into his mouth and down his chin. There would never be anything else to the dream. Just him and meat, from whatever strange place it had conjured it. Sometimes it was in a shop. Sometimes on a table. He’d eaten it out of the back of someone’s old van once, though.

And even though he was a lucid dreamer, he could never tell when they would sneak up on him. He would just collapse into sleep after barely taking the time to remove his shoes and would end up wrist-deep in a pile of viscera moments later.

    Summary

Majima hasn't had a day off work in...ever, basically, and that sort of thing is going to take a toll eventually, no matter how many preventative glasses of whiskey you drink. Which is why he has the flu now. Fortunately, the girls at Club Sunshine aren't having any of that shit.

Included: a non-sexual threat to tie someone to the bed, unexpected revelations about people's relatives, and Sagawa getting the slap in the face that we all know he richly deserves.

He looked at her balefully, said, “I could take all’a you in a fight, you know,” and then coughed.

“Oh no! I’m so frightened! My boss is going to get up and then fall over on me! I think that’s enough blackjack, I should get back out front, Ai’s going to be back here in a few minutes.” She plucked the cards from his hands, over his coughed protest, and handed him his slowly-cooling cup of tea. “Drink your tea, we’ll give you your clothes back when they’re clean and you’re feeling better. Also, I sharpened your tanto, the edge looked a little off. Maybe we can sew a little pocket into your jacket for it later, it doesn’t really fit in the one you keep it in.”

He froze in the middle of a sip of tea. “Wait, speakin’ of my clothes. Where did my shirt go? I remember wakin’ up in this one, but I don’t remember gettin’ out of it.”

“Ai and Saki helped you change, they said you were delirious.”

    “So they. Uh.”

Mana patted his hand, smiling cheerfully. “Your tattoo is almost as nice as my uncle’s.”

He stared at her. “Learnin’ all kindsa new shit tonight.”

“Right? Finish your tea and get some sleep.”

“I’m not arguin’ with you girls anymore, you’re fuckin’ terrifying.”

“Damn right,” Hibiki said softly, leaning over one of the dressing room tables as she fixed her lipstick in a mirror. “And you’re not really that scary.”

“I am. Listen, I’m a real dangerous man, goddammit.” He stifled a yawn on the lip of his cup of tea. “Maybe sleep’s a good idea.”

    Summary

"The key to my success is being threatened by these so called 'Heroes' of society." He said, turning back around. "Bring her in."

A nearby door opened, and a little girl stepped out, another beaked figure behind her.

    And Izuku stared.

She was so small, a tiny, frail little thing, with sad red eyes and a tiny horn poking through her tangled silver hair. Her arms wrapped in old, greying bandages, dark spots of blood marring the fabric.

She stood before them, small, shivering, and terrified.

"She is to be your new charge."

"Eri......chan......" He breathed, his voice wispy against his unused vocal chords.

She leaned in, squirming past his legs in his crouched position to tuck herself against his chest, nestled under his chin.

His hands curled around her, unbidden in their movements. Tangling his fingers in his hair, he felt her sigh contentedly.

The only thing he could think, as he held her in her dim bedroom, her little hands fisted in his hair, was that perhaps these changes weren't all that bad.
