Summary
Lucifer walked into the precinct (which was covered in holly and wreaths and garlands, because Christmas was just around the corner and it made him want to tear his hair out) as he usually would, all smiles and winks, until he got to the Detective, of course. She was radiant, as she always was, and when her eyes met his, he had to stop himself from telling her so. He placed her coffee order (a tall non-fat almond milk latte with sugar free caramel drizzle) on the desk in front of her and then perched on the edge of it. She’d placed a little reindeer made of corks and toothpicks beside her monitor. It had mismatched googly eyes and antlers made out of pipe cleaners. Her daughter’s creation, no doubt.
“Morning, Lucifer,” Chloe greeted.
“Good morning, Detective,” he purred.
Her eyes narrowed at him suspiciously. “What did you do?”
Lucifer gaped, “What have I… Nothing!”

Lucifer was the only person that Trixie had ever watched die. She knew that he had because he’d told her and her mom that he died but got better… and Lucifer never lied. Which is why when she watched him get shot this time, she was sure he was going to fall over and bleed like he had the last time. But he hadn’t, he’d just kept growling and walking, and he’d even broken the bad guy’s hand (she only knew that because Maze had told her what it sounded like once). She had been so glad that he was there to protect her, and she was scared that he was going to die again so she’d rushed past Eve just as the elevator doors were opening and crashed into Lucifer’s side even as he snarled at the man he had pinned to the ground.

He was at the piano, looked like he had been there for a while. He was just staring at the keys but then… then he looked up and met her eyes with his like he sensed her presence. His eyes were dark and angry, but it wasn’t… It was like he hated himself, like he was angry at himself, and he had been earlier, but… This was how he had been earlier, and she had been worried, and seeing him now, she was even more worried.

Chloe squinted at the light that was hovering over Lucifer. It was so bright that she almost wanted to shade her eyes. “Uh, Lucifer?” she started.
“Yes, darling?” he asked, making no indication that he was aware of the light that was hovering above him.
She wondered idly if this was something that happened often enough that it shouldn’t cause concern. “Why is there a… why is that light following you?” she asked, feeling a huge headache coming on.
