‘Protect him,’ Kushina prays in the quiet of her own mind as she leaves; pleading silently to the old spirits from her childhood, to the things that the Uzumaki Elders used to whisper about in hushed tones.
‘Love him,’ Kushina begs of the things she only knows from instinct and half remembered stories, those things filled with the power of salt and sun and deep deep waters. Those things that live and thrive in the heart and soul of every Uzumaki who has ever breathed and battled and bled. 'Guide him, keep him safe for always. But love him most of all. My little prince of eddies and leaves.’

Summary
Every Nara falls prey to what's known as the Nara Fixation, the inevitable obsession with one particular thing.
On very rare occasions the subject of a Nara Fixation will be a specific person.
For Shikamaru that person just so happens to end up being the kimono clad, monstrously strong, sunshine bright Uzumaki Naruto.
The village and everyone in it is about to learn one very important lesson: The only thing more terrifying than a motivated Nara is a Fixated one.

Summary
Shikamaru’s never felt chakra so vibrant and warm before.
The log that Naruto’s been punching shatters clean apart, reduced to little more than splinters under the devastating force of his chakra enhanced blow.
Shocked and more than a bit startled, Shikamaru wheezes loudly, the sound carrying across the clearing and causing Naruto to abruptly turn and look in his direction.
And in that single moment Shikamaru is lost.
