Summary
Dark eyelashes brush against pale skin. The witness is dressed like a man, but his features appear feminine--hence Sano’s presumption of his youth. There’s nothing masculine about him, and in fact he’s almost lovely. Heisuke swallows hard.
Sano chances a glance at his younger friend. Heisuke’s hands are steady, but they’re fisted, and he’s looking at the other boy with something like the regret that Sano feels. Still, Sano thinks there’s more there. He takes a breath.
Their nerves are still raw from failed experiments and personnel trials of the past two weeks. For a moment, he wonders what he would have done if it had been him, not Souji, to catch up with Ryunosuke that night.

ON HIATUS IN FAVOR OF "1863, DECEMBER"
“Of course, Sanosuke-san,” she agrees, and he can see it in her eyes that she is tired. Blissfully happy, yes… but tired.

Summary
No, that sounds stupid.
That sounds like something Hijikata-san would write in some harrowing story of his life;
God knows the last thing I’d ever wanna do is sound like that bastard. Let’s try again.

Summary
He leans against the doorframe, and his body is heaving, sputtering, gasping. And yes, every breath is agony, but that’s all to change very soon. The blood spattered on his palm is so red, Souji thinks as he trembles in the night wind. He’s leaning against the wall for support. His lungs are searing, and his eyes are watering--they’re only watering, damn it!--and Souji stares still as the sweat beading his brow begin to rivet toward his chin. So. Immutably. Red.

Summary
Her voice echoes like the monastery bells, he thinks. He is thirteen years old, and he’s heard this sound before whilst traveling with his father to Kyoto; the Gion Festival, he remembers--those joyous, cacophonous bells, and none other, do her justice.

Summary
This arc is critical to the development of one of my favorite Hakuouki characters, and it couldn’t *not* be touched upon if I hoped to do him justice. Like the other Hakuouki drabbles I’ve written, it came naturally as moment that needed to be shared. In that way, it isn’t smut. It isn’t intended for gratification, but character study.
Warning: Iba Hachiro character spoilers from Hakuouki: Edo Blossoms. ⚠
