Summary
Once a peaceful tiny town, Hatchetfield has been squeezed for resources and terrorized by the notorious gang of robber barons known as the Lord's in Black. In their pursuit of wealth, the Lords in Black have terrorized and murdered several of Hatchetfield's citizens leaving them in fear and desolation.
In an act of fear, following a tragic shootout that kills several people, Jane Perkins sends a telegram to her sister, the notorious Emma "Doc" Perkins, a legendary gambler, gunfighter, and whip-smart woman, in hopes that she can aid their dying town and preserve what little they have left.
In returning to Hatchetfield, Emma finds the town is worse off than she imagined, and with the help of some old friends and new ones, including a nervous general store manager who doesn't care for musicals, she soon plans to show the Lords in Black that she's returned, and all hell followed with her.

But when the dreaded holiday emerges, and the demon he swore wasn't real has come to collect, Ted is visited by the ghosts of Christmases Past, Present, and Future to re-evaluate his own soul, and in doing so, possibly save it.

Summary
Ten years ago, Henry Hidgens' questionable experiments resulted in Emma - a not-quite-human intended to be little more than a test of his abilities and a songwriting tool. But feelings got in the way, and now his not-quite-human not-quite-daughter is allowed to roam the house and go out for groceries and walks and even earn a small wage assisting him. But problems arise when she starts doing things she's not allowed to. Namely, making a friend. A friend who helps her to realise that maybe her father isn't as great as she's always thought, and maybe there's more to her origins than she's been led to believe.
