If anyone were to ask Booker why he chased Death, he would tell them. It wouldn’t be an answer anyone expected.
If they asked Joe, he’d say it was because Booker was selfish. If Nicky, he’d say that Booker was naïve. If Andy was asked, she’d probably just laugh and say that Booker was bored.
But if anyone bothered to ask Booker? He would say that the others weren’t wrong, but they weren’t exactly right, either. Booker would give chase, over and over again, without fail. Because Death gave him the one thing he valued above all others: quiet.
Booker is incredibly gifted and has an extreme case of hyperthymesia. He doesn’t remember everything. But what he does remember, he just doesn’t forget.
1. Adjective: safe, held, cozy.
2. Past participle of bergen: having been saved, having been rescued, having been hidden
In which Nicky and Joe are slowly coming to terms with what has happened in the last few months and trying to look to the future together when Booker's past throws a very large spanner in the works.

“She was his slave. He bought her and released her from the service,” Yusuf says. “I’m not sure how to feel about that.”
“They seem very happy now,” Nicolo says. “Who are we to say what is or is not a good start?”
Yusuf chuckles. “Good point.”
“What would you do if you were him and I were her?”
Yusuf turns to him, mouth agape.
“Indulge me, ya shamsi ?” He smiles. “Spin me a story?”
Wallahi, Nicolò doesn’t often call him such, but when he does, like the exceptional marksman he is, it’s always fatal for Yusuf.
“What would a merchant of Maghreb do to this pale slave from Genoa, prisoner of war, an invader?”
Yusuf clears his throat, slinging his arm around Nicolò and pressing him into his side, as if it can shield Nicolò from the yawning pit of guilt he sometimes likes to wallow in. It’s a futile effort, all he can do is wade in and hold Nicolò, keeping him afloat instead of drowning.
“I would notice his strange eyes and his awfully big nose."
“Then I would haggle with the fiend who captured you. I’d swindle you off his chains.”
Or in which the (soon-to-be) oldest men on earth ponder and celebrate.

Exhausted, nearly propping his eyes open with his fingers to stay awake, Joe takes the time to do one last thing: He sends an email overflowing with gratitude to the owner of the food blog who has saved his life these last few weeks. By the time he realises he forgot to sign his name, Joe has already started to drool onto his pillow.
Andy and Quynh’s engagement party is full of fond memories for Joe; it’s where he met the man who might be the love of his life, and thanks to a helpful food blog, it’s the event that finally taught him to cook. Now if only the owner of that blog wasn’t such a jerk...
Nicky always knew his crush on fellow superhero Joe Al-Kaysani, aka Solar Flare, would never come to anything. His identity was a closely guarded secret while Joe's was the exact opposite. That wasn't going to change, no matter how much he secretly wished it could.
But then his best friend Quynh sets him up on a blind date...with Joe. Suddenly, on top of a game of dating and hidden identities, Nicky has to deal with an influx of weapons into the community and some odd occurences at his day job.
Life is never dull when operating as a semi-illegal vigilante.
