He remembered going as a friend to Rogers, and then being shown that…gruesome video. He remembers Rogers uttering the heart shattering truth behind it all. He had known. Moreover, did not think to tell Tony. He had the audacity to preach, “Sometimes my teammates don’t tell me things,” but was terribly fine using Tony’s money and resources to find his parents murderer! What. The Actual. Fuck?! He remembered the fight that ensued after that revelation, the cold determination in Roger’s eyes as he fought for his Sargent. He especially remembers the shield digging a permanent indent into his artificial chest, after he realized that Rogers had been aiming for his neck, to go in for the kill, to do whatever it took to save his Sargent.
He also remembers the peace he felt when he had decided to accepted that death was unavoidable, and that it would be better to accept it, than fight it. At least this way, it would be less painful.

Various unconnected post-CW scenarios in which the ex-Avengers get what’s coming to them, turn on each other, get slapped in the face with the truth that Tony’s doing fine without them, etc. Some fantastical and unbelievable, some more realistic. Basically fuel for my bitter, bitter post-Civil War heart. Mostly oneshots with a few multi-chapter ones thrown in. All will be Team Cap negative (particularly Steve and Wanda) but generally Bucky neutral/positive.

Bucky Barnes falls asleep with the man he loves in his arms. In their bed, in their home, safe and sound.
He wakes up in the cold room of the cryostasis chamber in Wakanda to the worried faces of his former best friend and King T'Challa.
Everything that happened in the past six months— his pardon, his recovery, Tony's forgiveness, falling in love— he's told it was nothing more than a fevered dream, conjured up by a broken mind in cryostasis sleep.
The second chance at life he worked so hard to embrace. A newfound family and a place to call home. Tony, the love of his life and his whole world. All gone in a blink.
Bucky Barnes breaks.
A "what-if" canon divergence fic for my story "Winter's End".

The vibranium shield was Steve’s pride and joy. It was a symbol of protection, of justice, and it could smash its way through Nazis and aliens alike.
As it turns out, it could also smash through several layers of gold-titanium, and the human sternum, ribcage, lungs, and heart beneath it.
Steve kills Tony in Siberia, and the world is woefully unprepared when Thanos arrives not long after. As a last insult to the defeated Avengers, Thanos resurrects their betrayed and murdered former comrade, but his creation turns on him and defeats him. What’s left of the world celebrates, but damage has been done that can never be undone and Tony is… changed. Rhodey is determined to prove that it doesn’t matter: what makes Tony Tony is still there, and they’ll work through anything else.

An alternate to part of the CW ending, where instead of going back into cryo, Bucky chooses to leave after reflecting on what happened during the Civil War. When Steve argues, Bucky lays some painful truths on him.
