The alpha crouches down until they’re level. He examines Stiles and something seems to click in his head. He says, before Stiles can ask any more questions, with a nod at Bunnicula, “Is that your Alpha Buddy?”
“His name’s Bunnicula,” Stiles says around a mouthful of pastry and sugar. Bunnicula is his constant companion, always stuffed in his backpack or hauled along with Stiles in his jacket pocket. Every square inch of him smells like Stiles, from his floppy ears to his velvety pink toe beans. Stiles is proud, especially ‘cause his mom told him that the more his Buddy smelled like him, the easier it would be for his alpha to keep track of it, because otherwise it would just smell like cotton and stuffing.
Stiles is months off from having his next heat but he likes the idea that even if he has to be alone during it, he would have Bunnicula with him. And Bunnicula would smell like his alpha, so it’ll be like having a little piece of them too.
“Dad. What in the hell is this?” Allison asked, color high on her cheeks.
He looked back down at the desk and carefully, oh so carefully, did not react in any way at all. “It’s a marriage license.”
“Yes, Dad, I noticed that, too.”
He raised his eyebrows and tried, pointlessly, to deflect. “Why were you looking through Vegas marriage records anyway?”
They tease, they argue and they fight. Sherlock makes snide remarks about Mycroft’s weight and Mycroft takes every opportunity to remind Sherlock which of them is the smart one. But if worst comes to worst, they both know who to turn to.
Five times Mycroft has to dry his baby brother’s tears and one time it is the other way around.
“But how can other people tell who you are on the inside? How can they see?”
“They can’t, Sherlock, that’s the point.”
“Well, then they shouldn’t be allowed to tell you what you are. It’s stupid, it doesn’t make any sense.”
Sherlock knows a lot of things. He knows where plants get their green colour from, what the first element on the periodic table is, that DNA is the shortened form of the term deoxyribonucleic acid, how long it usually takes his mould cultures to grow to a respectable size and that Mycroft is his brother. He doesn't understand why people keep disagreeing with that last one, though.

“Are you happy?” Tony asks him one night, propped up on his elbow on the bed next to Bucky, fingers tracing Bucky’s hipbone. “Is this where you saw yourself when you were little?”
“Absolutely not,” Bucky laughs and tugs Tony closer to kiss the slightly panicked expression off his face. “But it’s perfect and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
