   “How do you feel today?” Kate Heightmeyer said for the first time.
   Rodney said nothing, just blinked his eyes a few times. There was a painting on the opposite wall of two overripe avocados. One of them was sliced open, showing the pit inside. The other had already begun to oxidize, which was strange because why anyone would choose to record something that had begun to decay was beyond him.
