    Summary

In the summer before his fifth year at Hogwarts, Harry is drawn to a room in Grimmauld Place. Like the Gryffindor he is, he enters the room without fear. The room is a library, and Harry is surprised to find that he’s eager to learn.

Then he gets the bad news: he’s been accidentally expelled from Hogwarts, and he needs to be sorted again. Everyone is confident that he’ll go straight back to Gryffindor, but with what he's been learning, Harry’s not so sure.

    Bookmarker's Notes

The initial premise and divergence were rather sudden, but I really enjoyed the world building and character development, especially of the Slytherins, of course. I liked the way there weren't excuses made for some of their behaviors, and the way problems continue to linger even as people try to change. I didn't remember him much from the books, but Blaise was really delightful, and Hermione was especially great in counterpoint to Zabini.

Although I generally enjoy Draco/Harry, I was a little uncertain about its development this time. I am quite willing to believe it's a reflection of Harry's point of view, though.

In general, I liked the handling of various sides and viewpoints, even if it felt a bit heavy-handed at times. Much of it reflects my personal opinions on the whole concept of having sides and arguments. Other elements I find somewhat thought-provoking with respect to my own abilities of communication and acceptance.

A solid candidate for a personal favorite and/or writing quality, at least for plot if not necessarily style. I'll have to revisit to make sure.

    Summary

If Arthur thinks that, just by waving enough money around, he can get Eames to risk his life and reputation to rescue him from a death sentence, he's got another thing coming. So Eames sets a malicious, undignified price on his services, one he can be certain that a man like Arthur would never condescend to pay. It turns out to be the first of many mistakes.

The plotting and technical talk is quite lovely, and the windup is perfectly excruciating. Arthur's characterization is not terribly different from usual, but it's significantly more . . . complete in his professionalism. It all makes for a shockingly hot finale.

There's a lot of character backstory development that seems pretty complex and very interesting, if slightly difficult to fully follow at times.

This is the one I remember most of this pairing. I really like the quiet self-assuredness of this Billy.

    Summary

2,200 miles, 21 days, nearly 200 cyclists. The Tour de France is the toughest road cycling race in the world, and every year cyclists nearly break themselves in pursuit of the win, the pinnacle of their sport.

Napoleon Solo is infamous in the road cycling world, and only most of it is for the way he climbed up the ranks, winning championships until he's nearly touching the infamous yellow jersey of the winner of the Tour de France. Illya Kuryakin is merely a domestique, someone who has to give up every chance of victory for their team leader. Both of them would sacrifice almost anything to win the Tour, to cement themselves as the best road cyclist in the world, and damn the consequences.

But a crash on the first day suddenly thrusts Illya into the yellow jersey, the spotlight and straight into Napoleon. They collide explosively, but as the Tour races on and turns more into a two-man race between them every day, Napoleon and Illya find it harder and harder to see each other as just rivals.

Neither of them quite want to admit there could be more, but the Tour never runs smooth, and there's more waiting for them on the steep mountain roads.
