  1. Summary

Humor and Drama and Adventure, oh my! Stories, drabbles, and long winding narratives from all across the realms of fandom.

Various ideas, scenes, conversations, and character studies. The title comes from that book most US elementary school students have to read: From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. You know, the one where they live in the Metropolitan Museum of Art for about a week?

All stories are unrelated unless stated otherwise.

“Burning a harmless old woman to death,” Newt said firmly, “is not fun.”

“Who said anything about old women?” Mr. Crowley knelt down and stuck his hands directly into the fire.

Newt almost jumped forward and grabbed him. Wensleydale made an alarmed noise.

“Although I can be, you know,” Mr. Crowley said, visibly relaxing a little bit. “At least, I can be a woman, and I’m definitely old.” The flames traveled up his arms, licking as if they liked him. “That’s much better. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get warm during an English winter?”

But Aziraphale did add one thing to the shop, just next to his barely used cash register. It was some kind of stand, made of a large, forked branch.

“Didn’t think you went in for modern decor,” Crowley said slowly.

“Oh, it’s not,” Aziraphale said. “That is to say—I thought you might like it. To, er, keep me company.”

“You just want me to lounge on that as a snake and stare at anyone who even thinks about buying anything,” Crowley said, and he was honestly very touched.

“Well,” Aziraphale said, which meant that was absolutely what he intended.

    Summary

“Why did you come here?” Aziraphale interrupts. “Why do you keep doing this?” All the saving, he means, all the chasing after Aziraphale he does. It can’t only be that he’s not keen to endure a replacement. That can’t be it, not anymore. He’s going to get himself in trouble, and then it’ll be Aziraphale’s fault.

Crowley’s mouth shuts with a click. He shifts uncomfortably in his seat, reaches for the handle of the fork and taps his fingertips against it before setting his hands in his lap.

When he speaks, it’s very soft. “Don’t you know?” he asks.

Aziraphale, unnaccustomed to his heart refusing to translate why it throbs with such haste, shakes his head.

Aziraphale dabs the corners of his mouth with a linen napkin. “Look Crowley, last time I tried doing your job, humans discovered gravity. I’m no good at temptations. I’m not sure what I was even thinking. Saw the apple, and took one out of your book. I can’t imagine how this benefits you.” He sighs. “Where is it I’m supposed to go?”

    Summary

Being the Dragonborn is a prestigious and important destiny. Unfortunately this time around the honor was bestowed on someone with no more common sense than a pile of broken rocks. The life of a housecarl is frought with peril, especially when she is serving the Dovahkiin.

    Truly the Skyrim experience:

"Being the Dragonborn is excellent fun," Svala said, looking down at the Overlord that had almost killed her, the dungeon that had at no point been on her itinerary, and the exit that would yield yet another civilian that had managed to convince her to solve his battles for her. "But I'm beginning to think I make the occasional bad choice."

    Bookmarker's Notes

“You’ve never stolen a child,” Aziraphale said.

“I have, I stole a whole passel once in Egypt.”

“You ‘stole’ them from a Hittite slave trader.”

    “Exactly!”

“And then you hid them with the soldiers’ orphans in Athens—”

“Do you know how much that Hittite would have got for them? Ten thousand drachmas, easy!”

“—where they were guaranteed food and shelter—”

“It was the heist of the century! It was diabolical! I got a commemorative plaque!”

“—and freedom, and dowries for the girls—”

“Well, I had to get rid of them somehow! You ever try to move that much contraband?”
