    Bookmarker's Notes

As if he’s trying to prove he isn’t afraid, Tim walks into Jason’s space. His expression is determined, and there’s steel behind his blue eyes.

“No,” Tim states, purely and simply. “You tried to kill me twice. The first time because you thought I was your enemy, because you wanted to hurt Bruce. And the second… You were pushed to the edge, and I get why. I should never have shown you Bruce’s testament.” Jason flinches and Tim pretends he doesn’t notice, continuing: “He was never good with words, but that thing was too much even for him. And in the end… were you even trying? I kinda got out alive really easily.”

It’s Jason’s turn to scoff. “You’re so fucked up. How can you think you got off easy? I left you bleeding out.”

Tim pauses. “Maybe so,” he admits. “I wasn’t trying to die tonight, though. Pru was a person of interest and clearly dangerous, if you had shot her I couldn’t even blame you. Me, though? I knew you wouldn’t shoot me.”

Jason pinches the bridge of his nose. “You know, I used to think it was weird but kinda flattering that you trusted me until I find out you trust all the worst people.”

“Do I?” Tim smirks. “Ivy did help us. Pru’s here to give me a warning that might save a lot of lives. And you didn’t shoot me.”

Jason stares at Tim, wondering why Bruce’s kids keep getting worse. Dick was nearly perfect, but that wasn’t enough and that was how Bruce ended up with Jason as a punishment. Then he was followed by Tim, the self-destruction machine. And then Talia’s unhinged spawn.

Now that Jason is responsible for Tim, though, he’s starting to think he’s the one with the worst kid.

“You’re welcome,” and oh, Raymond’s smile broadened, and he was smitten again, “I love you, Raymond.”

“I love you as well.” Raymond turns to Jake as Kevin tries to regain some self-restraint – it would be terrible bad form to just throw himself at his husband and cling to him. “Jake, I think you had better have a band-aid on the wound.”

“Would you like stars and spaceships or kittens, Jake?” Kevin holds up the choices. His fingers are hardly trembling, his wedding ring is shining.

“Uhm – the spaceships, please, da – dev – Kev.” To his dismay, Jake is sniffling as he puts his hand out to him, without any protest.

“Jake, are you alright?” he asks worriedly – the younger man would be capable of injuring himself while being treated for other hurts –

“No! Yes! Whatever, I’m not crying, you’re crying!” Jake sounds slightly hysterical now.

“Jacob, neither of us is crying.” There is something careful but warm in Raymond’s tone, and his gaze, slightly amused, flickers from Jake back to him, suggesting there is no danger, and Kevin stops worrying. He reaches for the blue, sparkly band-aids and smiles at his husband. Raymond's eyes twinkle in reply.

"Hello, Tim," Bruce intoned, "Are you well? You didn't answer Dick and he was concerned."

"I'm good! Dad took my phone and all my stuff. I think he's mad at me."

"I...see. That's not...good. I need to be able to contact you at all times."

    "You do?"

"Yes. Because, uh, the enemies from being Robin. If they find out your identity I must be able to contact you."

    "Oh. That makes sense!"

"Here," Bruce said, and he pulled a phone out of his utility belt, "Take this. Keep it hidden. I trust you know best how to do that."

    Tim nodded.

"I'll keep it hidden. And text Dick proof of life."

"Excellent. And...call me if you need anything, Tim. Even if it's just to talk."

"Uh...sure, Bruce. I will," Tim replied, confused as to why he would need to.

    Bruce clasped his shoulder.

"Good," he said, "That's good, s-Tim."

    Bookmarker's Notes

“But you believe that I don’t like you,” he continued, and Jake blew out a long breath, looking unhappy.

“Kevin, I know all the stuff you like. None of it is anything like me. And that’s ok, it’s not your fault or anything, some people are just gonna… not like me. That’s fine. It’s cool. Really.”

    Kevin considered this.

“You don’t have any Latin,” he decided slowly. “Or Hebrew. Or–”

    “Yeah, exactly.”

“No, I mean– you know what I like. But you don’t know anything about what I like. You’ve never even read Homer.”

“See, I feel like that ‘even’ was–”

“Jake,” said Kevin. “I like you.”

Jake looked like he’d been punched in the throat.

    “Ok.”

    “Jake. Are you crying?”

    “... you’re crying.”

    “I’m really not.”

    Summary

“You’re clearly injured,” Kevin says as he takes a half-step toward Jake, his free hand reaching out but stopping a good two feet from Jake when he remembers - or so Jake guesses - that he really doesn’t want to touch Jake or be involved in this in any way.

“Actually,” Kevin says, glancing up from his book, “for Rosa and Gina, I would have used the expensive organic peanut butter, not the cheap sugar laden brand I fed you.“

Banter, Jake thinks, noice. Trust Kev to know how to nip that real feelings stuff in the bud. Smort. Jake can do banter.

He grins. The little dig didn’t even sting that much - though Jake desperately wants to be Kev’s favorite. “Joke's on you,” he shoots back, “because I like the cheap brand better.“

Kevin raises his book a fraction, but not fast enough and not high enough to actually hide the tiny smile stealing onto his lips. Jake sees it, this secret, knowing, pleased little smirk and it’s like jolt of electricity straight to his brain when realization hits.

Kevin knows Jake likes the cheap brand better and there is no way Holt and he would have it in their house. Cheddar eating it didn’t make him freak out because he’d just read the label because he’d only bought it minutes earlier during his little trip to pick up Jake’s meds.

    Specifically for Jake.

    Because Jake is his favorite.
