Based off of Capsfatass's wonderful thread, here. "Steve makes one final sacrifice to save everyone. He leaves Bucky and Sam but not by being selfish and old. He’s surrounded by Sam, Bucky and Tony just like when Tony died. He asks Tony for forgiveness, he gives the shield to Sam, he tells Bucky he loves him"
The gauntlet rolls out of reach, rolls towards his feet, glinting as fire rains down from the sky, ravages the world.
There’s some unnamed emotion in his heart, some unbearable ache in his soul. It reminds him of the war, for a heartbeat, no man’s land. Bucky at his side. Bucky beside him. Bucky’s eyes on him. Bucky's eyes are on him.
The sacrifice play.
The wire on the ground.
Everything special about him came out of a bottle, except the one thing that didn’t, which got him the bottle at all.
It’s a grenade. And he doesn’t hesitate.

A soulmate is the perfect match. Perfect in every way. One touch, and the souls mesh together, bonding two people together in mind and spirit. It was sacred, especially in the 1940’s, when people began to find soulmates who had met many times, in previous lives. One such pair is Steve Rogers and Antonio Carbonell. And Steve is happy with his new found bond, but things get strange when Steve wakes up in the 21st century.
He could feel it happening. The air was growing tenser, almost still. An eery calm was beginning to settle over the field. Steve’s pace quickened, his legs taking him over the rubble of the ruined building and closer to the pit where Tony would soon pass.
Which, wouldn’t happen.
Not this time.
Steve wouldn’t allow it.
Steve Rogers wasn't an idiot. He knew how to use technology. He didn't know fighting Nazis and homophobes was going to make him Twitter famous.
