Summary
The first thing they see - apart from Captain Bonnet himself, all silked up and frilly and a sight in his own right - is the cat sitting primly by his ankles. She's a white, well-groomed thing, coat as pale and smooth as snow, with a delicate pink ribbon around her neck and a little golden bell hanging at her throat. And sure, she's a little big, on the large side as house cats go, reaching right up to his knee, and a bit leggy as well but the crew still takes one look at her and feel their estimation of their new captain drop another sharp couple of notches.
This, they think incredulously, is the man that proposes to be our fearsome pirate captain?
"My name is Captain Stede Bonnet," the new captain says proudly, sweeping an arm out in greeting, looking so pleased and chuffed and ever so slightly nervous to meet them. "And this is Miss Daisy Bonnet, though of course you may all call her captain as well."
"Two dubloons on a mutiny by the end of the week." Frenchie murmurs with a sharp bite of mirth. On his shoulder, Beauregard lets out a soft tittering laugh, the songbird's beak clicking.
"Not taking that bet." Pete replies snappishly, still glowering sullenly at the captain.

Summary
The hand halting in his hair came without sound, and like it the time waiting for Stede to reply was deafening. He could hear, in the man’s voice, a confusion when he replied, “What is it darling?” Stede didn’t know, didn’t yet understand the depth of what Ed would confess. Stede couldn’t feel the gnawing ache he felt. The lump, which sat solid and heavy in the pit of Ed's stomach, felt as though it had begun to hatch. Limbs, almost like tentacles, began to emerge from the pit of it.
-----
When Stede returns, things settle back into something close to what normal used to be. A bit different, but everyone is happy. Except, Ed can't ignore the way the guilt over Lucius' death eats at him. He has to tell Stede, but how could he ask the man he loved to forgive him for such a thing?

Summary
Jim's managing, alright? It's not exactly as if there's a guidebook on how to be a Protector--Sentinel--whatever it is he's supposed to be. He's had to figure it out as he goes and honestly, he's doing a pretty good job. He hasn't fallen into himself so far that he can't claw back out. And if he ever does? If he's ever so caught up in something (or nothing) that he can't find his way out?
Jim tries to steer his mind away from the nagging thought, from the threat of being so thoroughly lost. He's fine. He's managing.

Bookmarker's Notes
I love this fic. It is very serious yet it has hilarious moments like this:
"
“Now Jim,” Pike says in a way that totally means he agrees on the Professor Roliozisk thing, “[Spock] really was a sight. Not worried in a manner anyone else would call worried, but that’s the way it is with him.”
“That makes me feel a bit better—if he’d been overtly distraught I’d assume the world was ending.” Jim can’t help but snicker.
“That would be the day.” Pike can’t help but laugh as they get their meals.
"Like,,,,, the *audacity* of this fic makes me love it

Summary
“Chekov,” Jim says, “How close are we to the coordinates Komack sent us yesterday?”
“Maybe an hour away, Captain?” Chekov estimates.
Spock blinks, then shakes his head. Something sounds familiar.
Following the tragic destruction of the Enterprise, Spock is given another chance. Somehow, despite his best efforts, he can never quite manage to save anyone.
