    Summary

Irony was the one word which seemed to fit her life best anymore.

It was with great irony that she was known across stars, and yet walked anonymously through bustling streets. Lauded, applauded, or feared, yet not a one could have picked her out from a line up.

It was with great irony that she became the savior of Ishgard in their Dragonsong War, despite parading about as an Au Ra at the time. The whispers had been cutting until the great wyrm was felled. It had been they who had fed Fray within her soul and mind. Sidurgu’s eventual companionship was more than welcome in those troubled times.

It was with great irony that the first soul to truly seem to understand her, to intrigue her, was one who she should have felled immediately.

But perhaps it was the greatest irony of all that her current face was a copy of said man’s previous wife and empress. How fitting it was, in a way, that she should finally don Garlean skin as she staggers towards the nation’s founder. How fitting it was that he must stare into the eyes of the woman he once swore he loved as she crumpled before him, choking and gurgling up incandescent light. How fitting an end for Eorzea’s renowned hero, for Norvrandt’s last hope.

He had never been able to find that medium between frigid cold or scalding heat. All it took was a quirkless girl with a soft smile to let him feel the warmth of love in his heart.

“I haven’t…” she starts, watches his blue eyes narrowed in concern and it’s distracting, everything’s distracting. “I haven’t had a body in a hundred years,” Zelda manages, and shrugs one shoulder, as if to say what can you do? “I was Hylia, mostly, and a little bit me, but I wasn’t a person. I was the sun and the wind and the water and the dirt and I was in a prison and I was the prison. I feel like I’m blindfolded, now, without that sense of the world, but also everything is so bright and loud and close and I hardly know how I’m managing to speak to you when my skin is feeling wind for the first time in a century. It’s…” she trails off, her words failing her, which is infuriating because she’s a scholar, she’s good at words. “It’s a lot,” she finishes awkwardly, for lack of anything better to say.

Or: Learning to be a person again, after the end.

    Summary

The Zonai are meant to be gone—extinct—eliminated. Hylians, if they have not already, erase them from the history books and whisper about the mysterious ruins dotted around the continent.

Hylian whispers can never be trusted, though, least of all when it comes to the other races living their quiet lives across Hyrule. They know little, if anything, about the Zonai, and even less about their own twisted, dark history.

It's a shame that ignorance extends as far as their supposed Hero as well.
