Obtaining identifying documents for Dave had been incredibly difficult. He came from the late sixties with only his dog tags and the clothes on his back. He was dying, and there was no time to grab anything else. His birth year and age definitely don’t add up. I should be eighty, he thinks. I should be dead. He traces the scar on his chest and recalls waking up in the Academy’s surgical suite hooked up to machines he’d never seen before. The fear he felt was intense, but Klaus was there to ground him. Had it not been for him and his mother Grace, he’d be among the body count on Hill 689. He’s forever grateful to them.

“The Commission-” Five stresses through clenched teeth, and Klaus waves him off.
“I know, I know. Scary time traveling assassins, I get it, but why would we have to worry about them now-”
Klaus is interrupted as the door bangs open, and familiar footsteps hurry towards them. He can’t help but smile as Dave’s voice rings out, tension leaving his body, because this whole fucking day might be a painful mess, but Dave always seems to make things a little bit brighter.
“Klaus, darlin’, I got your message. S’everythin’ alr-”
“You,” Five snarls venomously, and Dave’s head swivels towards him, eyes wide in surprise.

The route itself is pretty simple. From their apartment in Scarborough to Christopher’s school, it’s a bus ride and a trip on Line 2, and then from the school to SickKids, it’s just another few stops on the train and a transfer to Line 1. They’ve got it down to a routine, him and Chris; back home, Eddie could never quite figure out the transit system, but despite all its many, many flaws, the TTC seems to have their back.
It could have warned him about the guy, though.
