I’m crammed into a burrow so small that my knees are up around my ears and the boom mike keeps slamming into my head, inhaling the potent scent of toffee-apple brandy and trying to drink a talking mouse under the table.

This is delightful in complex and unexpected ways, as well as some entirely, wonderfully familiar ones.

The lesson is transfiguring rats into teacups . . . only Ron Weasley's rat is actually an Animagus, which has dire consequences for the spell, for Peter Pettigrew, and for the Dark Lord's prospects for resurrection (and rather better consequences for Minerva McGonagall's reputation). Minerva McGonagall is wonderful and I want to be her when I grow up.

    Summary

This is my first time writing in response to a prompt. From OldShrewsburyian: Holmes and Watson go to the opera. At least, they attend a rehearsal for a new production of Fidelio. It brings up some Things for both of them.

For those new to the series, your experience will be enhanced if your read "Five Dirty Minutes in the Dark" first. "O Paradis," the second story in the series, is also opera-related and important to this story.

“So what you’re saying is that all the good guys are gathering in one place for Rittenhouse to shoot like fish in a barrel,” Rufus summarizes helpfully.

    “Pretty much.”
