Ray is wearing thin. He lingers too long at mirrors, studying his reflection. He can see Mama in his eyes, the slope of his nose, the shape of his mouth. They are both similar, in ways that Ray does not like to dwell on. He, like her, has mastered the art of putting up walls and emotionally distancing from their situation. For survival, Mama would say. For Ray it is more for protection.
OR
Ray is forced to grow up much sooner that he should.
