“Forget an umbrella?”
Keith feels compelled to lift his gaze. On the other side of the safety glass, looking right back at him through the rearview mirror, are the most beautiful gray eyes Keith has ever seen. Like dark storm clouds slowly rolling over a churning, black sea. The driver’s long eyelashes flutter when he blinks and Keith almost feels himself slip into a trance.
“So, where to?” the cabbie asks.
Keith thinks his taxi driver might be one of the fair folk, a ghost, or something in between.

Shiro gets turned into a shrub in his now decrepit castle. Keith is the landscaper determined to restore the grounds.Shiro may not be shaped as he once was, as man or bush, but he still springs back with a satisfying wobble when the boy gives Shiro a firm pat.
“You’re jiggly,” he says, solemn expression breaking into a smile.
Shiro wishes he could smile back.

Keith is tiny, shrunken down by an alien animal encounter. On their flight to the cure, Shiro and Keith spend a night exploring.
Shiro lifts his hand reflexively, moving the same way he would any other night, to run loving fingers through Keith’s hair, cup his sharp jaw in the palm of his hand.
Except now most of his body will fit in the palm of Shiro’s hand.
