    Summary

"A tense silence fell over the square as the mercenary coughed against the kicked up dust and debris, all the while she kept a gentle hold on the cat. Its once snow white fur was coated with a thin layer of dirt from the tumble. But it didn’t look concerned about that at all. Instead, its unusual violet eyes were wide, its tail ramrod straight and tense along with the rest of its body. It didn’t try to escape, even as the woman shifted so that the cat rested on her lap. Rather, the cat stared up at its captor, fully exposing the key around its neck. It knew the conditions of victory and it closed its eyes in resignation as the victor’s hand descended over it. But instead of feeling a tug at its neck, the cat felt fingers softly pet the top of its head."

    Summary

All of Edelgard's life transpired in red.

Red, fot the Adrestian Empire's colors. The blood spilled in its history. The blood of her deceased siblings, tortured and sacrificed. The red pouring from her body, altered and mangled. The red giving way to white. The blood spilled by her in a war against her past, against the ones who imposed the white of her hair and gloves.

It was only after Byleth came into her life that she learned of blues, blacks, greys, and yellows, and most importantly: the value of white.

But now, a new color might teach her new paths, new ways to see the world she was creating, and new meanings, new feelings for the sound of a pulse:

    purple.

    Summary

"Your Skaikru are lousy. They do not care for their people."

"Their criminals, Lexa. They only care about themselves." Clarke leaned back and toyed idly with her knife. "That's why we were sent down here instead of anyone else. We're expendable."

"It doesn't sound like your leaders care very much for their people either." Lexa twirled her own knife in one hand. "I can't say I disapprove of them sending prisoners, but it was not a well-thought-out plan. They sent children. The people will not approve."

"Good. Maybe they'll find better leaders." Clarke tilted her head thoughtfully. "Perhaps they can be convinced to join the Kongeda. You'd lead them better than they lead themselves."

"I'm glad you think so highly of me, but you'd first need to inform your people of our existence. You've had good reason to keep it hidden with the- what do you call them?- delinquents in such disarray, but they must know before the rest come down."

Clarke snorted. "Because they'd be so happy that I've kept an entire population hidden from them."

Both Byleth and her mother survive thanks to the Archbishop, but Lady Rhea is acting strange. All Byleth's mother can think of is protecting her baby, so she flees the monastery and leaves her life, and her love Jeralt, behind.

Years later, Byleth has been raised on stories of her father: Jeralt the Blade Breaker. When she helps save a group of students who are attacked outside of her village, she is given the opportunity to attend Garreg Mach Monastery as a student- and the father she never knew is one of the teachers.

Her mother has always warned her: "You cannot tell anyone who your father is or you will be taken away from me." But does she take the chance to get to know her dad or does she obey her mother's wishes and stay in the village?
