Summary
Steve is Becca's best friend and he watched as her younger brother grew up. The three had been close as thieves until Bucky left for the war. Becca had begged Steve to keep Bucky safe and he had tried but it wasn't enough. Bucky had slipped through his fingers when he fell from the train.
Steve carried the weight of it into the twenty-first century convinced that he should have done more to save Bucky. Steve gets the chance to save Bucky this time when he reappears as the Winter Soldier with no memories of who he is or of his past.

Summary
It had been a long couple of days. First an assassin had shot Director Fury in Steve's apartment, then he found out that Hydra was not only alive but thriving, then he had been blown up in New Jersey, and now he was being attacked on a bridge.

Summary
Bucky had picked up pickpocketing as a way to cover rent. He's barely getting by as it is. One night, he tries to pickpocket Steve Rogers. Maybe it was fate that they met because after that night neither of their lives were the same.
(Bucky tries to steal Steve's wallet but it doesn't go as planned. Feeling sorry for him, Steve simply gives Bucky all the money he has on him. That should be the end of it but it isn't.)

Bucky is retired, he only goes on missions if there's an emergency. He's the safety net for the Avengers. He's a history teacher now and he loves his kids. Bucky lives with his amazing boyfriend, Steve, and he has more in life than he could have hoped for.
After a mission goes south, Bucky ends up in an almost deathlike sleep. The team doesn't know what the chemical was that put him into the coma and they don't know how to wake him up.

It should have been like any other mission. The soldier had been given his target and it was simply a matter of taking her out. He was meant to eliminate Margret Carter but he couldn’t. He couldn’t and he didn’t know why.
