    Summary

Being adopted into a family is always a strange, special experience.

Especially if you happen to be an old, weathered federal agent who has arrested said family. Multiple times. They fill up his quiet, lonely life with colour and mayhem more than he ever imagined. He begins to realize that, though they need him—he needs them even more.

(Now if only he could get Riley to stop calling him a tree.)

    Summary

Mother looked so human, then. The look in her eyes, and the downwards tilt of her mouth, and the silent, greedy breaths she took. A heart broken, but still beating. When you’re a kid, you take aliveness for granted. You’re eight years old and your parents will never die or leave or hurt you, and you will be young forever. It will always be a summer’s day and your mother’s arms will always hold the whole world and the stardust between your fingers will never slip away.

Jim is young. Too young. But there’s no forever about the woman sitting in the kitchen, and there are no tears left in him. There’s an empty space that’s been ripped open, and the gravity has tilted.

He’s young. But he’s old enough to know that things like that never really matter.

Or, Jim Hawkins grows up, older, and maybe a little bit wiser.

    Summary

It started with the Dwarfs. Many things do.

“The better periodicals printed celebratory articles, explanations of the new laws, and stories of newly happy couples and individuals. The Ankh-Morpork Times did a feature on Misses Hammerhead and Goodslate, now Mrs. Hammerhead-Goodslate and Mrs. Goodslate-Hammerhead, complete with an interview and full-color iconographs.

The worse periodicals printed: THE RUMOR COME OUT! Does Lord Vetinari is Gay?”

Same-gender marriage and other legal rights and protections are instituted in Ankh-Morpork!

Also, the Patrician comes out and is having a MARVELOUS time.

    Summary

It had never occurred to him, Moist reflected as he changed his suit, that the man would actually die. He was something permanent, a fixed point, never changing. Moist would have compared him to the sun or moon, but they moved about too much to work in his analogy. He’d often thought that he’d die before Vetinari, and sometimes, if he was being uncharitable, he’d thought that he’d die because of Vetinari. It seemed that was no longer a risk to be concerned about. He missed the feeling immensely. Send a prodding Dark Clerk to summon a man from his own home often enough, and he’d get nostalgic for it. Moist could almost feel a hand tapping at his back just remembering it.

He frowned. It didn’t feel like a memory.

“Mr. von Lipwig,” said a female voice, patiently, “please follow me to the palace.”
