If the uncrowned king and queen of Utopia hadn’t been mutants with a higher cause to keep Emma occupied, if she really had been the vapid society hostess she sometimes pretended to be, she would probably have murdered Scott by now. Because although Scott had taught himself to get out there and shake hands and look people in the eye – even if they couldn’t reciprocate – and try to make the case for his species, without flinching; a Scott who wasn’t a member of an oppressed minority would have whined like a five year old about having to attend parties and meet society people and be a clothes horse for Emma’s taste, and been no kind of asset to her at all. He would have stood around awkwardly while knowing, bored, society wives, and vampish mistresses, and wide-eyed debutantes all tried to make breathy conversation with him, while Scott toyed with some limp white wine and tried not to look at either his watch or anyone’s breasts. Emma would have been forced to dump him for Tony Stark in sheer self-defense. The other women would have been on Scott like hyenas on a fresh kill while Scott was still mopily wondering why Emma had left him, and Emma would have regretted the exchange she’d been forced to make for the next decade even as she propelled Stark remorselessly towards the presidency, it hurting her like a knife under the ribs every time she saw Scott being uselessly decorative at the next party, the next controlling woman steering him from senator to senator with guiding jabs of her fingernails.

It was a very inconvenient moment, when Emma was sitting there, radiating adamantine fury with him, to realize that he still loved this woman like a sister-in-law, when he hadn’t noticed ever starting to love her in the first place.

    Summary

The alternate universe Wolverine, ex-Governor General James Howlett, asks Scott Summers to help him rescue his dead lover, Hercules, the legendary hero and son of the great god Zeus, from Hades.

[A Scott Summers-focused story in which the Avengers are unfortunate enough to guest star, mostly so they can be telepathically violated by Scott’s damaged psyche in Part Two.]

Steve Rogers didn’t trust him when it came to Scott Summers because he suspected a part of Logan of believing that Scott was good for mutantkind. However angry he was with him, however much he wanted him to pay for what he’d done, Logan was a realist and a mutant, and Summers, for all his infinite faults, would do what had to be done, always, to protect mutantkind. He’d become that guy that law-abiding mutants tut-tutted over when the humans were watching, but if he’d been running for office, some of them would have slipped twenty bucks in his campaign fund all the same. Steve Rogers suspected them all of paying lip-service to law and order and privately cheering Scott on when he saved another mutant from another police beating or shooting.

“Your father thinks that if he pushes us away, it will hurt less when he gets himself killed.” Alfred tells him, a little profoundly, in a gruff tone, as he takes off his glasses to gently wipe at the lenses, before replacing them once more.

    Summary

"This isn't a concentration camp," Delta says, calm, like he's been rehearsing it. Erik looks at the gun on his hip, the guards behind him in the corridor, the bars between them.

He smiles with a lot of teeth. "I think I'd know that better than you."

AU in which the beach divorce didn't happen and Erik decides to stay and help Charles start his school. But despite their clean break, the government isn't ready to let the mutants disappear into hiding.

Oh, but, Jean… Jean is stepping forward and she looks vicious, righteous, like divine justice made manifest. Her eyes are lit with a terrible fire and she's trembling, waiting for Erik impatiently, holding herself back. She's looking at Delta, where he's kneeling coughing on the floor, and maybe she's projecting, or maybe Charles is connecting them all now, linking their emotions, because Erik can feel what she wants and she wants so badly to kill him, to kick Delta in his bruised throat and hold his gun to his head and pull the trigger with her mind.

And that's it. Maybe the only thing.

    That stops him.

"Are your days normally like this?" Dev turned to ask him.

"You have no idea," Alfred sighed. But he smiled. Bruce Wayne had many talents, but *he* had never won Star Baker.
