    NOW WITH ART!

    Steady:
    1. Not easily disturbed or upset
    2. Constant in feeling, principle, purpose, or attachment

“Why does it even matter if people get suspicious?” Harry lay back and stretched, and Severus watched him do it. He was almost cat-like, with an unselfconscious grace that took him off guard each time he saw it. It was how he looked on a broomstick. The absolute master of his body. Harry looked over at him staring, and smiled.

    Oh, that smile.

Unguarded. Uncomplicated. Free, and easy. It made Severus feel drunk with power to put an expression like that on his face. He lifted one of Harry’s hands to his lips and kissed his knuckles. I love you, he thought. It was becoming almost routine, thinking that. I love you. Almost normal. Almost tolerable to hold in his mind, now.

    Summary

"Byers does this thing every semester called the Muse Project, where you pick a person or a subject and your final piece for the course has to focus on them. Then at the end of the semester, there’s this coffeehouse where everyone invites their muse and shares their work. So obviously everyone picks whoever they’re dating at the time, and then they break up halfway through the semester and all the writing turns super angsty. Which would be fine, except I don’t write about people, like, ever.”

That’s a lie. He does write about people, but always in an abstract sense, and never more than once—the curve of a hip under his hand or the promise of a kiss on his neck, nothing you could spend a semester on. Before Samwell, and sometimes still, there never seems to be anyone permanent enough to write about.

A minute or so goes by before Dex speaks. “Does it have to be romantic?”

“Uh, no, not really. Just someone that inspires you.”

    “So write about me.”

    “You’re—you’re Eric, right? Eric Bittle?”

“Call me Bitty,” he says. His eyes slip from Kent and trail out behind him into the snow-covered yard.

    “Sure. I’m here because—”

“I can see why you’re here,” Bitty says, looking over Kent’s shoulder. Kent turns, knowing what he’ll see, but not believing that Bitty can see it too.

There, two feet from the passenger’s seat of the rental car is the flickering image of a boy. He’s made of silver and shadows, like what’s left after the light passes through a stained-glass window—the color drained out, a dullness in his breast. He’s eighteen and will always be eighteen, just like Kent has seen him every single day since the draft more than six years ago. The ghost of Jack Zimmermann.

    --

A magical AU in which Bitty helps Kent convince a ghost to move on because honestly, NHL contract negotiations are hard enough without a spirit watching over your shoulder. Jack, to nobody's surprise, is a very hard ghost to satisfy.
