Upon arrival at the hotel that the FBI has booked for them, they find that their room features only one bed. Hannibal offers to sleep on the floor, to which the clerk replies, in an oddly droning voice, “I wouldn't recommend sleeping on the floor, sirs, not with the spider problem we’ve had lately.”

Uhura realized that she was staring at T'Pring's closed door and hastily shut her own. Enough of her odd neighbor. She deposited the egg timer beside the stove, made herself a cup of tea, and sat back down at her typewriter. She really ought to write something else that she was confident of selling, but she was so tired of cowboys and private eyes and ace pilots, all inhabiting worlds where she herself could never exist…

Hastur ran down the hall to Ligur's room. He barged in without knocking, because he was a demon.

"Ligur! Ligur! Wake up!" yelled Hastur. "It is spring!"

"Who cares?" said Ligur. "Every day down here in Hell is the same."

"Um. Crickets. Lots of crickets too. Much tastier than flies. Crunchy."

A cricket demon somewhere chirped indignantly. But it was not scary like Lord Beelzebub, so he ignored it for now. He would find it later and eat it.

She was not the first woman to attempt her doctorate at Brown - that was Martha Tarbell, who received a PhD in German Studies in 1897 - nor would she be the last by far. Like the others in her cohort, she was prepared for what would come ahead: first the intensive questioning, then the snake

They found a leather-bond volume tucked into a hollow of a tree, the writing barely legible and the story inside -- unbelievable. But there was indeed a George Torcy, who disappeared almost a hundred and fifty years ago, along with expedition led by Captain Harvey. All the rest of it -- are surely lies.

I remember first the awful stench of blood upon waking up. It was coming from Lothbrok’s tent, which had been slashed open for the world to see. Outside the tumbled sketchbook, filled with lewd drawings, there was nothing there save the bloody trail that started from Lothbrok’s bedroll and led to the woods.

In the somber silence that followed this grisly discovery, our noble leader, Captain Harvey cleared his throat and said, “Well, it could be that Lothbrok left of his own accord. Never mind. Torcy, make a note.”
