Summary
After everything quiets down, Inko and Toshinori bundle Izuku onto a plane and take off for Otheon, searching for rest, recovery, and perhaps a little reunion.
“I did say I’d come back and visit,” Izuku says tentatively.
“Well yeah, but then you didn't even bother to call,” Rody says, one eyebrow arching in an unimpressed fashion, even as Pino quivers with a teary-eyed look on his shoulder. “Nearly a whole year went by and I didn't hear a peep. What’s a boy to think?”
“You didn't have a phone,” Izuku points out, but his heart squeezes with guilt and grief, a little touch of fondness. “And I was fighting a war.”
“I don't see why that’s relevant.”
Izuku swallows a laugh, but part of it makes it out anyway. He eats the rest of his omelette while Rody looks determinedly away in disgruntled silence. It feels wrong to look at Pino for answers when Rody clearly wants to keep his feelings hidden, but it’s hard to ignore the way the little bird keeps watching him avidly, as though she’s scared he’ll disappear, as though she wants to make sure he isn’t going anywhere.
