This is a really nice antidote to all the canon-adjacent NamJin fics where they are dysfunctional and a little mutually destructive.

By contrast: Namgi are soft. SO SOFT. Beautifully soft! As soft as their shared, worn sweater. I really loved this, the way that the sweater wearing out reflected their own lowered inhibitions with each other? And how the sweater came to be just another thing, something they valued for sentiment but realized they didn't need anymore, once they could actually say what they wanted to say to each other.

This is the slowest burn and it's worth every word.

    Summary

Seokjin is not looking for a relationship – he’s been there, done that, lesson learned. So when he somehow ends up in a fuck buddy arrangement with supposed one-night-stand Namjoon, he knows that he needs to handle the fling without emotionally compromising himself. He’s definitely got this! (Dear reader, he did not have it.)

Namjoon dropped the used condom onto the floor – gross – and said, “So, you have issues with sex.”

Seokjin blinked at the virtual stranger whose bed he was in. “What the fuck? No, I don’t.” He processed the words. “Hey! Fuck you!”

    Bookmarker's Notes

This was *so good* and just really resonated with me in super intense ways? Jin's catastrophizing feels a lot like how my depression talks to me, and watching Namjoon play it so cool while (as the reader) knowing he's stupid in love was just such a nice contrast. The background Taekook was blink-and-you'll-miss-it but I think I caught it??? And Jin's dealing-with-it-by-not-dealing-with-it also felt really real. Maybe it's because the last year of my life has felt simultaneously like backsliding and stasis, but there's a lot in this fic I really loved, and a lot that felt like it spoke to me, personally. Seokjin is /a mess/ in this, but it's a mess I see myself in, a mess that works for *this* Seokjin. That conversation on the balcony on NYE, that.....that one really hit me. And Namjoon's petty/cool response the night before he went to Tokyo hit me really hard, too. This fic doesn't pull punches, but it goes past the usual endpoint, past the easy part of the resolution to show the hard part. In that way, this is the NamJin answer to marienadine's 'same damn hunger'.

This was FREAKING GREAT -- I loved all the great perfect details, from the boarder/outdoorsy terminology and gear, to the easy way people in a shared group all end up adopting each others' speech patterns. Making them all explicitly American was the right call, and them sharing their Korean-ness (but it being expressed differently by each one, and not all of them being first gen!) was also a great detail and one I appreciated. But YO THAT KISS!!! It was swoony!!! I was a little unsure of this going in but I'm glad I took a chance, this rocked.

    Summary

Jin can feel the thread of his life careening wildly towards this boy in front of him, already beginning to twist and spiral like two orbiting planets destined for a collision in the near future.

Suddenly feeling like he has to prove himself to this boy who looks years too young for the look in his eyes, Jin cocks his head and says, “You don’t know me.”

“Oh, but I will,” Namjoon says.

    Bookmarker's Notes

"Fuck, Jin, how did we end up here."

"Well, what now, Namjoon," he shouts, his voice echoing in the small room. "We can’t just go back to how things were before this. There wasn’t a before. We’ve always been like this."

“And we never agreed to anything more,” Joon says, “We did it your way, no strings and no attachments and all that shit. And it killed me. Did you know that? Did you ever stop to think about what I needed? I was never allowed anything more, and now you suddenly want to talk about love.”

He laughs, it coming out somehow as a sob.

This one hurts, and it's worth every second, every word, all of it. They're rough, self-destructive, desperate, a mess, and each other's. Idolverse and tipping into 'too realistic' but also exactly as painful as it should be.
