    Summary

The second time Jack and Bitty go to Madison for the Fourth of July, they’re not going secretly as boyfriends, but openly as fiancés. They haven’t even thought about wedding planning just yet (okay, fine, Bitty has multiple Pinterest boards set up already), but that all changes when Bitty leaves the party preparations in tears and Jack makes a decision that ends up tearing open some old wounds.

Of course, not all tears are tears of sorrow, and some old wounds need to be re-opened so they can finally heal.

    Summary

Everybody in Eric Bittle’s family has a soulmate. He’s heard stories about those unlucky people whose marks never come in, and he’s even heard a few stories about people who never connected with their soulmate despite being marked, but the Bittles and Phelpses have never suffered that fate. Until he came along. Eric Bittle doesn't have a soulmark, but that hasn't stopped him from longing for his soulmate.

Jack Zimmermann has never thought too much about soulmates, even when it was still a possibility for him. He’s not like Bitty, still holding out hope a mark will materialize, proving there’s someone out there just for him. He’s twenty-four. It’s not going to happen.

When Jack signs with the Falconers, pretending to be soulmates seems like an easy solution for both of them. After all, neither of them really wants to be alone.

Or, the one where two friends pretend to be soulmates until they realize they're no longer pretending.

When Eric Bittle first lays eyes on Jack Zimmermann, the first thing he thinks is: Somebody ought to tell that man that he is not allowed to be cute and hot at the same time.

When Jack Zimmermann first sees Eric Bittle, all the way across the studio with his huge brown eyes and his adorable upturned nose and his absurdly tight jeans, he completely loses his words.

    Summary

    ‘Bits… You’ve got something from USA Hockey…’

‘Who?’ Bitty drizzled vinaigrette over the salad.

He held the envelope in front of Bitty’s face, shaking it a little to give it emphasis. ‘USA Hockey.’ He tapped his finger next to the logo.

Bitty chuckled and turned to the oven. ‘It’s not real. I’ll bet Shitty’s chirping me.’ He bent and opened the oven door, emerging with a baking tray full of chicken and cauliflower. ‘What would USA Hockey want with me?’

‘Mind if I open it, bud?’

Bitty waved an absentminded hand at him, arranging chicken on a platter with the other. ‘Go ahead.’

Jack went to his desk and picked up the letter opener and slit the envelope open. He pulled out a sheet of paper and scanned it. ‘I don’t think this is Shitty chirping.’

    Summary

“Never have I ever blown a dude,” Shitty shouts.

Bitty locks eyes with Jack as Jack slowly lowers his bottle from his lips. Jack’s cheeks are lightly pinked and his brow furrows as he turns his head down to examine the label on his beer bottle as though it’s the most intense math problem he’s ever been presented with. Bitty suddenly feels light-headed and disoriented. “Lord, I must be drunker than I thought,” Bitty mumbles to himself.

His head is reeling over what he may or may not have hallucinated. Has Jack Zimmermann—epitome of heterosexuality—given a boy a blow job before?
    ——
In the fall of 2014 SMH plays a game of Never Have I Ever in which Jack accidentally comes out to Bitty. With the knowledge that Jack is simply uninterested in a relationship with him in his back pocket, Bitty resolves to move on.

When Bitty gets himself a boyfriend during Jack’s final semester, Jack starts to realize some of the things he’s been feeling are a little more than platonic. But he realizes too little too late. Bittle deserves better anyway.
