  1. Summary

The series takes place in the 2040s, in a world changed and governed by a devastating threat. Based on Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beecham's Pacific Rim universe but requiring no knowledge of it whatsoever, this is the story of Rangers Holmes and Watson, serving in the Pan-Pacific Defence Corps, humanity's best and last line of defence. A highly sophisticated neural interface allows them to Drift, which means syncing their memories and thoughts to control a Jaeger—which are the most formidable war machines ever built. Drifting also creates a connection between the two men which, in its intensity, is initially difficult for both to accept.

Maybe it's the cocaine. Or the loneliness. Or the unfairness of it all.

A story of difficult compromises and a hope that stubbornly refuses to die no matter how many times it's drowned in a seven percent solution.

    Summary

His immune system is decimating his nervous system - a civil war raging inside of him. Is there a reaction he's supposed to be having to this news, now? Something normal: cry, scream, pound the wall? Shake his fist at the uncaring universe?

John can't stop this. An uncomfortable bed at some hospital ward isn't going to stop this.

They keep telling him that this will most likely pass, but no one is answering the most important question: how will he be able to endure the uncertainty and the long wait?

This story launched a long series of fics detailing the history of Sherlock's mental health, his emerging and evolving romantic relationship with John, and his recovery from Guillain-Barré syndrome, which is an acute neurological illness that lands him in intensive care. I have picked two stories from the series for this starter pack; both can be read as stand-alones.

If you enjoyed this, the following stories might also please you: Lunar Landscapes, Harmless Things, The Road of Bones, The Significant Other

2007 is a prequel to The Breaking Wheel, but the two stories can also be enjoyed as individual, unconnected fics. In 2007, we find Sherlock at the height of his drug problem. The story deals with mental health, the difficulty in making sensible life choices when he has never been encouraged about his abilities to make them, and his relationship with Mycroft.

"Does this fandom even want a Sherlock/Pacific Rim fusion?" is what I asked myself, and although I was unsure about the answer, I wrote it anyway. And, that answer turned out to be "HELL YES!"

This was quite the hit, and the comments section practically turned into a spinoff. No knowledge of Pacific Rim is required. Find out what the fuss is about.

The System puts people through a series of assigned relationships in order to determine who their Perfect Match is. John believes that it works; Sherlock really, really doesn't. One of them is probably going to be wrong.

Based on an episode of "Black Mirror" but requiring no knowledge of the dystopian TV series, this quirky little romance asks the question whether love is a variable that could be manipulated with science.
