    Summary

The other bed is empty again.

Dean closes his eyes. He listens through the click of the glass hitting the table again and again; through the sound of repeated refills; through the shaky exhalations of breath that seem one bare aching step from tears.

Dean will sit in teeth-gritted silence through Sam’s uncharacteristic patience by day, his quiet mourning by night, because there's nothing he can say. He can't say he's sorry. He can't pretend he wouldn't make the same decision again.

It’s in Dean’s bones: for Sam, he would make that trade a thousand times over.

    Bookmarker's Notes

I was extremely late to Supernatural, and started watching mid-Season 3. That was the season that hooked me on the show, and this fic fits so beautifully into what made it so good - that tangle of love and desperation and denial and desire made flesh.

A lovely get-together fic that explores the Season 6 Winchester relationship and how Sam views himself after getting his soul back, through a seemingly innocuous selkie case. The plot itself is simple, but the style of writing really makes the story.

Absolutely hot and steamy but also delightfully, almost achingly sweet Dean/Sam.

    Summary

Completely without allies after Dean disappears, Sam decides desperate times call for desperate measures and takes a job working for Crowley, developing a new version of Dick Roman's "vamptonite" that will work on all monsters. It seems like a win-win situation - Sam becomes a more efficient hunter than ever before, and Crowley takes out his competition for earthly dominance. But during his work Sam meets a man who reminds him of Dean, and the more time they spend together the less certain Sam is that he's doing the right thing. Once he finally discovers a way to get Dean out of Purgatory, Sam is forced to decide how far he’s willing to go to get the one thing he’s always wanted.

Smarter folks than me would probably see the twist coming, but I didn't, and it was perfect. Everything rings pretty darn true to character, especially Sam's obsession and coldness when Dean disappears, and is just an excellent, gripping AU turn on what might have happened in S7.

    Summary

Under mysterious circumstances bitterly disputed by the historians, Sam Winchester said yes to Lucifer. Three years later, Lucifer is gone and the familiar landscape that the Winchesters once traversed is a burnt-out ruin of its former self — not to mention the damage done to Lucifer's vessel. Trapped in a grotesque parody of domestic bliss with a brother he no longer recognizes, a shell-shocked Dean has no reason to believe that happy endings exist for men like the Winchesters.

    Bookmarker's Notes

The End was a fascinating peek into how the Apocalypse might have gone, and this is a painful yet hope-filled alternate take on what would have happened if Sam said "yes". Angst but with a glimmer of hope that it'll all turn out ok in the end.
