"Amphibious thing! that acting either part,
The trifling head, or the corrupted heart,
Fop at the toilet, flatterer at the board,
Now trips a lady, and now struts a lord."
    - Alexander Pope

They are come to London for the season. Lord Montague wants to civilize his son; Monty wants to slip his leash; Percy only wants some peace and quiet. No one, really, has their prayers answered.

The proposal we were heartbreakingly deprived of. It takes place (very vaguely) after Monty and co. get back to England at the end of the third book.

When was the first day he had noticed Paul was beautiful, not in the abstract way of a river or a statue but in the way of something he wanted to sink his teeth into?

    Summary

In hindsight, he knows that his fate was sealed the moment the words left his mouth; the moment Jaskier’s voice broke a little when the final words of goodbye were uttered. He had no way of knowing, then, but should have seen it coming all the like, should have suspected it would happen because Fate, capital F and all, fucking hates him, apparently, and once it starts its little game with you, it never bothers to stop. He should have known that and acted on it because when Jaskier’s footsteps grew quieter and further away as the bard walked back to the camp and then down the slope of the mountain, that was it. A rustle in his chest growing in intensity alongside immediate regret.

    Summary

Paul feels rather guilty about this, actually. His plans were to originally dine with Duncan in the garden, under the stars and far away from the soldiers standing guard in every corner of the house. They’d talk and flirt and then make their way to a specially prepared bedroom with candles and silky sheets. Afterwards, they could bathe each other, wash off the sweat and replace it with the sweet smell of rose petals. It’s rather romantic, he knows, but it would be his first time and Duncan hadn’t courted anyone in years, so he wanted it to be different than just a romp in bed. Paul had gone through all of it with a fine tooth comb, meticulously overseen each part of the night. His mother had been proud of him, of his dedication and care.

He doubts he brings much pride like this, dragging the infamous Swordmaster Duncan Idaho through his ancestral home, fingers hooked like claws in the man’s flight suit and lips ravaging a panting mouth like a wild beast.
