There was a man in the Temple with a story too outlandish to not be believed—outlandish even by Master Yoda's standards, who had seen almost 900 years in the galaxy.

    Summary

Before Eliot can properly freak out, there’s a second flash of light and Quentin is standing there in the middle of the room again, stumbling a bit and looking dazed.

Except it’s not quite Quentin. Not the same Quentin at least. There’s something different about him—his hair is shorter, and he’s wearing different clothes, and his shoulders are somehow even more slumped, and that’s all Eliot has time to take in before Quentin catches sight of him and, with a strangled “Eliot,” launches himself at him.

In the middle of an argument about how to restore magic, the questers receive some very unexpected visitors.

    Summary

Quentin matters; Quentin is something precious. He's good and kind and loyal, and he believes, he believes in things so hard. It makes him beautiful, the most beautiful thing Eliot has ever seen and he wants to be worthy of that belief, of Quentin's unyielding faith.

    Summary

The story went something like this:
A long time ago there was a certain Lucian monarch. They wore the crown, and with it the Ring of the Lucii, and with that were entrusted with the power of the Crystal.
And with that power came a price – a price in life force.
It was a burden they had always borne. Not always faithfully, not always well, but always. And because it was theirs, it was the monarch who paid the price, and forces neither divine nor mortal could compel the Crystal to take it from another.
This was true – but also true: people were not made to stand alone.

noctis lucis caelum inherits a most peculiar trait of the royal bloodline. becoming a vampire isn't easy, but as with most things, it's easier with friends.

(unless, of course, all your friends swear magically binding oaths to let you drink their blood on the reg)
