Summary
Cheng Xinyan knows him well. She’s seen Shen Wei grow from a nervous student into a respected professor. She’s been there with him for some of his best and worst moments. She doesn’t know all of his secrets, but she knows more than most, has seen more of him than most. She doesn’t know exactly who Kunlun is, but she knows that the glitter in Shen Wei’s eyes on the rare occasions when he’s mentioned that name to her, is the same glitter that’s there whenever he looks at Zhao Yunlan.
When Shen Wei comes to her in the middle of the night, soaked to the bone from the rain outside, Cheng Xinyan doesn’t have to ask any questions, she knows just what to do. She’s done it a hundred times before, and she’ll do it as many times as she has to, for her friend. So he can see once more the sunlight, no, the starlight after rain.

Summary
Loving Pangzi is as easy as breathing. That is the comparison Wu Xie used to make, before his lungs started rotting away, before Thunder City and his miraculous recovery. Wu Xie’s lungs may be cured now, but other things take more time. In the aftermath of his illness, in the aftermath of almost dying, with fear and guilt like a constant weight pressing down on Wu Xie’s chest, comparing his love for Pangzi to breathing of all things doesn’t quite seem to work anymore. Not like it used to.
Perhaps Wu Xie has it all wrong though. Perhaps the comparison was never about the ease, but about the effort. Recovery is much the same in that respect. Luckily neither of them have to do it alone.

“What’s it like, having dark energy?” Zhao Yunlan asks him one night as they’re lying in bed. It’s something Shen Wei has thought about many times, but that he has always found hard to explain to anyone who doesn’t have it. “It’s like breathing,” is the closest he’s ever been able to get, but that too doesn’t really cut it. Maybe though Zhao Yunlan has a suggestion of his own.

Summary
Zhang Rishan is used to pain. He’s used to being hurt, being injured, being battered, bruised and bleeding. To Zhang Rishan, pain is just a fact of life, an inconvenience to ignore until he can’t anymore. Until either it takes him out, or someone forces him to slow down. It’s a good thing he has people in his life who can do that, who can help to soothe the pain, even for just a bit, who can help to ease the weight of those afflictions. Both permanent and seasonal.

Summary

How did the third prince, the not-quite-Noldo deal with becoming the king of the people he had run to Alqualondë to avoid, how did he grow up, and most importantly, who did he grow up to be?
