    Summary

It's months before Connor realizes that the damage to his regulator never fully repaired from when it was torn out and thrown across the room. It's months more before he realizes how hard it is to live with system damage that just gets worse, and worse, until he can barely work, or smile, or think-

But it's fine. He doesn't need to ask New Jericho for a replacement part. Really.

    He's fine.

Don’t apologize,” Felix snaps, and it’s comfortably lacking in heat, “Just- why?”

    Sylvain snorts. “You know why.”

Felix is quiet for a moment. And then another. Sylvain catches his gaze and finds his brows furrowed again.

“Felix,” Sylvain says, “You know why.”

    Felix bristles, “Obviously I don’t.”

Sylvain thinks his friends know far more than they do.

    Summary

There was a reason, she explained, that she sent students from the infirmary with ice for bruises and bandages for scrapes, that she didn't heal away illnesses but provided medicines instead. Because if the body could heal without magic, the body should heal without magic--not allowed to mend itself, it would simply forget how. Over exposure to Faith magic led to thin skin and brittle bones, to muscles that tore and struggled to heal over and grow, to injuries that appeared faster and healed slower.

This was especially true of children.
