Nick says, trying his damnedest to hide the gleeful mirth on his face, “You’d have better luck finding a Ring-Pop to propose to your girl with, Danvers.”

“I take it back, retirement does not suit you at all,” says Carol, smacking her best friend (who she isn’t in love with or the stepmother of) on the shoulder. Nick, damn him, laughs like an asshole.

or: Carol proposes to Maria. it takes some time, because she has to find a ring first.

The doppelgänger pivots, grabs his arm, and moves with him, spinning him around to throw him away. “Jesus fucking—hey, punk, for fuck’s sake will you just let me explain?”

What do you do when you’re a hundred years old and suddenly realise you want to bone your best friend? If you’re Bucky Barnes, you swear a lot and spend way too much time in denial. Good thing for Bucky his best friend’s never one to avoid a problem when he can run headlong at it.

“Why would you do that for a man you don’t know?” Bucky asks.

Steve raises one slow eyebrow at him, then the other, till his expression turns from skepticism to disbelief. His forefinger and thumb reach into his shirt’s front pocket and draw out a wrinkled dollar bill.

Steve looks him in the eye when he says, very patiently, “For money, Bucky.”

    Summary

On the run with Sam and Natasha, Steve finds the words to describe his commitment to Bucky. As with most of Steve’s decisions, there are unintended consequences.

“It’s no use,” Natasha tells Sam. “You won’t get him to go out and flirt. Steve here’s a married man.”

They’re somewhere in Croatia, and Sam’s been hard at work, trying to pull Steve away from a busy night of sketching and staring at his phone. He wants to go out and drink plum brandy and dance with the locals.

“You should go without me,” Steve says, hazy. Married. A married man. Isn’t that something?
