Summary
Erion was the first child born in Rivendell in 600 years. He was half-Mortal, half-black, illegitimate, and born into a people halfway on their way to faded or wholly raging against the dying of their light.
There was a hurricane under Elrohir's skin, blood on his hands, and a wolf rattling the bars of its cage inside his mind. Every breath Arwen and Estel took was one more closer to death, and Elohir had never learned how to grieve without sinking his teeth into everyone around him.

Summary
Tamar thought she would die as she had been born, along the banks of the mighty river Cush. It would be a peaceful death surrounded by her children and her children's children after a life well-lived, or maybe it would be a tragic death of a life cut short, but her body would be buried in the black river-soil her ancestors had gone into before her, not in cold, Northern lands so far from home its name was never known. But the man she once called husband had gambled her away like a handful of coins, and lost her to the cold, Northern hands of an Easterling.
Lindir never pretended he had outrun the memories of a childhood of torment and servitude, but he had thought he had learned to live with them. But that was before Erestor embarked on a reckless and wholly unselfish journey to bring the Mortal woman south, and lost a fight with one of the giant spiders of Mirkwood on the way. There was no antivenom in the world that could save him. There was only the perilous Power of the Land, and the unforgivable crime Lindir would have to commit to attain it.

Summary
He asked me to explain it. But how can one explain what the Silmarils were to the followers of the Fëanorions? Elrond, for all his love for Maglor, had never been a Fëanorion. How could I put into words the obsession turned worship? The Silmarils had risen to godhood in our eyes. They were the justification for our every deed, the reason we’d suffered so much. They were what made the deaths worth something. They were the light we fixed our eyes to in desolation. They were the things we cursed and blessed, bled for, hoped for, and killed for.

Summary
Modern AU: Kili doesn't remember Dís. He was young when he was taken away from her to go and live with Uncle Thorin. He barely even remembers his brother Fili. But a phone call out of the blue means now Fili's coming to live with them, as though the flat above Bilbo Baggins' flower shop isn't already crowded enough.

Summary
Bilbo catches Fili talking to himself. Bofur tells Bilbo a story about how Fili's late younger brother haunts Thorin's family. They say the dead Kili still whispers Fili's ear from the realm of death, protecting his brother from sickness and goblin arrows but leaving Fili's life plagued by rumours of madness.
And then Bilbo puts on the ring and learns that like all the scariest stories it is, of course, entirely true.
