Everyone has a soulmate. Everyone can identify their soulmate by the black, ink-like stain that marks their skin where they first make physical contact with their soulmate. Everyone except Lexa Woods.
But that isn't stopping the bold, determined Dr. Clarke Griffin from taking an interest.
When Lexa Woods inherits Clarke's late father's position at his family company, things turn "ugly" between the two quickly. Clarke is a cocky spitfire who will do anything to prove herself. Lexa's a cool, analytical mind who always puts the job first. They can't stand each other, or at least, that's what they tell themselves.
After a decades long war, peace has finally been established in the known universe. While heroes are celebrated and the dead are mourned, Earth’s future is brought into question. A war hero and a diplomat are brought together to help in finding the solution.

“Walk around this corner and approach those guards slowly. Keep your head down and,” Lexa adjusted the peplos until it was draped over her head, “keep your hair covered. They’d recognize you by your hair, even in the moonlight.”
Clarke nodded. She took a small step before she paused. “Lexa?”
“Are you going to kill them?”
Lexa’s back straightened at the fear in Clarke’s tone.
Trapped in a small town, dead-end waitressing job, and a loveless marriage, Clarke Griffin finds herself faced with an unwanted pregnancy. She finds solace only in her gift for baking pies and the company of a young doctor named Lexa Woodward.
Based on the movie/Broadway musical "Waitress."
