As Dimitri left the Professor in the library, the full implications of what had transpired dawned on him. He cursed himself for being irresponsible and promising things that he had no right to once again. He was a killer who hardly deserved to stand before her and still, he had brashly offered to be her lover. And yet she had agreed; she had said all right.
He didn’t have words for the feeling that lodged in his chest, somewhere at the core of him. It was simply a messy tangle of desire and greed, possession and adoration. Once the door was opened, he did not know what that dark thing would become; perhaps it would consume them both.

Felix Fraldarius was many things, but a craven he was not; his father Rodrigue and his cousin Jacques would swear it a hundred times over if they had to. But in those woods, Felix encountered a monster—a beast so savage that it struck fear into even the bravest of hearts.
The Prince and his friend; they were so close that side by side, those unfamiliar with their appearances couldn’t tell who was the prince and who was his beloved friend. What brought their lifelong bond to this state of ruin?

“We have… a history.” Felix’s tone is weighted, and his flush deepens.
Dimitri stares at him. Waiting for more, but no more comes. “Oh?”

“Involved?” Dimitri repeats dumbly. Felix is looking anywhere but Dimitri now, but why should he be so embarra-
Oh. Oh. Involved.

Felix Hugo Fraldarius had been sent to kill him first.
For the fe3h kinkmeme prompt: “Felix-Dimitri, Masquerade Ball; Felix is the empire’s brightest and most effective assassin, and he has come to take out the young Prince of Faerghus at the celebratory ball on the eve of his coronation- he ends up helplessly smitten and in the prince’s bed instead.”
