    Summary

One would think that having the name of one's soulmate appear on one's wrist on one's sixteenth birthday would make matrimony much less complicated. It mostly does not. And not at all for Miss Elizabeth Bennet of Longbourne.

(A deconstruction of the "soulmate identifying mark" trope, using "Pride and Prejudice." Trigger warnings in the tags.)

    “Do you have one?”

    “What?”

    “A soulmate.”

    “Everyone has one, Yuuri.”

    “Did you meet them yet?”

Viktor wants so badly to lie. He can taste it in his mouth. No, he wants to say, I don’t belong to anyone but you and I never will.

But Yuuri deserves the truth from him, not to be lured in under false pretenses. He asked Viktor to coach him, not to fall in love with him.

    “…yes.”

“Oh.” Yuuri stares blankly at nothing. He bites his lip. “Well, congratulations.”

Yuri turns and brandishes a damp sock at them. “Don’t let him sweet talk you into doing porn,” he tells Yuuri. Then he grimaces and mutters to himself in Russian, “I can’t believe my life has reached the point that I have to say things like this.”

The Cord of five years ago, Cord thinks, would never have dreamed that one day she’d find herself sitting in the cold dirt with her long-gone sib, halfway across the world from Edhar, under a sky so dark that the stars shine in it thick as swarf on a shop floor. But here she is.

Cord and Raz have a chat.

A beautiful, perceptive, and complicated fic about how One Esk started singing, with bonus hidden references to real-world music. Instantly one of my favorite Radch fics.
