    Summary

Four months after Another Impact has ended, on a restored Earth where Evas no longer exist, Asuka Shikinami Langley feels unhappy and out of place. Hounded incessantly by everything she's lost and the choices she was never allowed to make, she begins to pursue the tiniest possibility that maybe -- just maybe -- the traces of divinity left in her will allow her to follow the Evas to the land of light that lay beyond the anti-universe. Once there, will a promised reunion be as wonderful as she imagines? And will she be able to successfully confront a usurper king, and take back the body that rightfully belongs to her?

bardo (noun): the intermediate or astral state of the soul after death and before rebirth (Merriam-Webster.com Dictionary)

Asuka Langley Soryu was utterly defeated and humiliated during the final hours of her too short life. Then, in those chaotic moments of raw intimacy before Third Impact, she flatly rejected Shinji once and for all and gave in to his murderous rage. In the end, though, she chose to return from Instrumentality and laid by Shinji's side. What did she leave behind there and what did she take with her? How did she get from "No" to a caress? This story is one interpretation.

Just great character work and incredible details. Also picks up on something that is rarely done: an Instrumentality section for Asuka.

And another great Reichu story; if you already took a look at Crying Man, reading this should be a no-brainer. If you didn't: This is a stand-alone sequel to Crying Man; so while reading Crying Man will certainly give you a lot of background info and will make you understand a lot of references, it isn't required. The same I said about Crying Man in my other bookmark also goes for this story; whether you're an aspiring writer like myself or simply seek to read something that falls out of the norm of FanFiction a little, there's something in it for almost everybody. Give this one a look! I certainly didn't regret it one bit!

    Crying Man / 泣いてる男(ヒト)

Dr. Akira Katsuragi is a brilliant, but sensitive to a fault, man who for years has evaded his emotional obligations to his wife and daughter, escaping into the controversial physics research that has maintained an obsessive hold on his mind. After a decade of grueling work, he has finally published his magnum opus, a massive paper forwarding the Super Solenoid Theory, a potential final solution to humanity's energy crisis. Despite a frustrating initial reception, financial backers eventually emerge, forcing Akira to take a stand on where his priorities truly lie.

While this story is based on the world and characters of the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, previous knowledge is not required for understanding or enjoyment.

Incredibly gripping, visceral writing that drags you into the heads of the characters and really makes you feel like them. In my eyes the best thing that came out of the Eva FanFiction community on the merits of it's writing alone. That's before you get into the incredibly detailed and thoroughly thought through story, where even the secondary characters are completely formed people, with their own (hinted at) backstories and agendas, and ... yeah, I better stop gushing now. I realize the topics and themes might not be to everybodies taste, and I certainly *didn't* expect to like this, looking at the tags, but I was so thoroughly proven wrong that I'm left wondering how many great stories I ignored because I didn't give them the benefit of the doubt. To anybody reading this: check out this story. I'm not one to give praise easily, and while I realise that it's awefully presumptious to assume that that means anything (as if I was the sole arbiter of good taste), I stand by my assessment that in this case, the praise is really deserved, even if it seems over the top. The only flaw of this story is that it isn't completed - yet!
