Fabian non ce l’ha con Regis, non davvero. Ce l’ha con sé stesso e con quello che prova quando vedere Meridian con lui, con quel sentimento che gli avvelena l’anima e che gli fa immaginare la sorella con lui anche quando il precettore è da solo. È sciocco lo sa, Meridian non è fatta per essere di una sola persona, non a lungo per lo meno, e il gemello dovrebbe essere già sceso a compromessi con la cosa. Invece si ritrova a stirare un sorriso che non gli raggiunge gli occhi.
“Siamo venuti per le briciole,” Meridian dichiara e non ha senso per Fabian che non ha assistito alla conversazione precedente, che non ha sentito Regis spingerla tra le sue braccia, sminuendo la propria importanza.
“Le briciole?” chiede quindi confuso, ma la sua domanda viene sovrastata da quella di Regis.
“Siete?” Il precettore solleva un sopracciglio, senza che nulla trapeli dalla sua espressione.
