He knows this kind of tension from Alec. It's the tightly strung state Alec gets caught in whenever he's working up the nerve to confess something important to someone he loves. Jace dipped into their connection earlier and it prickled with Alec's proximity, and when he strained his ears he could make out Alec's pacing before the front door through the tilted window.
