Steve has a brief lapse in impulse control that changes everything because he suffers from a condition called “I have no sense of self-preservation unless I’m actively trying to prevent children from dying”itis and unfortunately, it’s incurable.

“Caaaareful, Harringtoooooon,” Eddie said in a sing-song voice. “Trying to fix me is a lost cause.”Steve scoffed. “I’m not trying to ‘fix’ you,” he grumbled. “I’m not delusional.”
“Sure you’re not,” Eddie said in that shit-eating way of his. “You just want me to be a more responsible co-parent for Dustin.”
Steve couldn’t help but frown, hating that he could feel his ears turning red, wishing that Eddie would back up and that he could stop feeling so goddamn weird.
“We’re not - I’m not a parent, co or otherwise,” he said, frowning even harder.
Eddie made a face like Steve was tragic. “Oh, Steve… I thought you said you weren’t delusional.”

Summary
"What did you do with Eddie?" Robin says from directly behind him.
Her hand lands heavy on Steve's shoulder before he can move. It feels like the time Officer Callahan caught him, Tommy and Carol arguing over whose fake ID looked the most believable behind the blind-eyed liquor store on Burlington Avenue, sophomore year.
He feels capital b Busted.
Steve hasn't done anything with Eddie. He does have a detailed mental catalogue of the things he'd like to do with Eddie. But Robin can't possibly know about that. Can she?

Or: Steve dons Eddie's vest to preserve the sartorial integrity of his new favourite polo shirt. He gets away with it right up until he chooses not to.

Summary
"Do you--Harrington, do you know other gay people?"
"One," Steve says, and then, after a moment, "and a half."
"And a half?" Eddie boggles at him, "What does that mean?"
"He's figuring it out!" says Steve, defensively, "Taking his time, y'know? Whatever, the point is. It's cool you're gay, man."
Eddie comes out to Steve, and Steve's heartbroken about it for some reason. Eddie thinks Steve's dating Robin. Everyone else thinks Steve and Eddie have been dating this whole time. Robin doesn't get paid enough for this shit.
Also, Hawkins has been cracked open like a badly-baked cake, and everyone's settled into the most mundane apocalypse possible. Eddie Munson starts a radio programme about it.
Meanwhile, Steve gets his nails painted, and outsources a crisis he isn't having.
