  1. Summary

Zelda's life is destroyed, her heart broken and mind shattered. She finds the world still holds some good people, while yet discovering the depth of apathy, callousness, and outright evil everywhere at work. Wandering without plan, destiny drives her onward to a fortuitous island.

Dr. Robotnik seeks to gain ultimate power, creating armies of all sorts over the course of his carer. In various parallel lives, Sonic has been a loyal creation, a rebel leader, and an everyday schmo; now he finds Möbius destroyed and himself thrown into a gritty world of magic, where a Deku Scrub nurses him back to sanity. Here in Light World, his path crosses Zelda's, a girl all but destroyed by a narcissistic covivant. He teaches her to stand on her own, and together with Tails and Ruru (Musaigen no Phantom World), they set off to free the world from the bad guy.

Years pass, and they're nowhere closer when Peach stumbles into their lives, an innocent who sets her sights on Zelda, her half-broken knight in shining armor.

In the sequel “I am Legion”, they continue on to save the world from a new threat from “out there” — an existential horror — and Tails's lost love Amy [Wong] (an AU-AI) comes into play.

  2. Summary

Larry Niven's Ringworld, with some modifications from Philip José Farmer's “Riverworld” and John Varley's “Gaea trilogy”. 3,000,000 times the area of Globe Earth (hence ~5.9*10e14 sq miles), a gently curved ring that rotates in place ten miles above The Ice. The azimuthal flat projection of Earth is laid on in one spot, Mars in another (covered in xenon 129 and split like Iapetus), even Kzin. Through it all runs a river on the order of 6*10e8 miles long (~40x that of canon Riverworld's ~10e7), with species of winged people and Centauroids. Inhabitants can see the glittering darkness to one side at night, and yawning empty blackness to the other, their gravitational normal being in line with what would be centrifugal force had its builders chosen to use so primitive a technology.

Some conjecture it to be just a cog in a vast machine that includes the shining Galactic Disc world-pond, towering Yggdrasil, and the Entropy Engines' thermodynamic void; few dare connect it further with the Thoan monad or the world-tree cluster.

  3. Summary

This series started as just a one-shot to help people with AO3's CSS for making work skins.  Now that I've written a piece on making series (originally for a friend, but then shared to a Facebook group, so I figured why not add it to AO3), I figured that the two really should be linked for tutorial purposes.  I had no plans to do any of this at first, so maybe I'll add more in the future (Collections come to mind, and they're really easy to do).

I don't expect to add further tutorials, but I hadn't expected to write these either.  I'm calling the series complete, but who knows (one thing that keeps nudging me is the idea of writing a basic thing on statistics and mining your data to figure out traffic and half-life, for example).

  4. Summary

Earth Two (Sagittarius Earth), pretty place. A sleepy place. A sombrero-shaped world-pond that spins 'round lazily with bright blue skies and calm blue oceans. Can so lovely a place remain hidden away forever, safe from prying eyes and depredations?

Further tales might be in the offing, but Earth Two is a quiet place, not greatly given to excitement (though sometimes pure fluff can be fun, so I imagine that more will make their way in, over time: after all, “Meat pies  ” [with the Jötun family and the pantry full of Nisser/Gnomes] went fantastically well!). ❤️

NB:  If you're wondering how to make a series on AO3, please see my tutorial “How to make a series on AO3  ” (in a series with another tutorial on CSS work skins for fonts, font colors, highlighting, etc.).

  5. Summary

A shapeshifting Genomorph and a Deathworlder (i.e.: Human, a.k.a. Space Orc) meet under less than ideal circumstances.  The Genomorph finds zerself in dire straits, zer ship marooned on Earth, and ze's surrounded by lethal wildlife of every description.  Over time, they find each other not quite so alien as one might expect, and discover together that deathworlds and hellworlds can hold a certain charm.

In a later episode, the party grows as they're joined by a Space Cat-girl and her girlfriend, and all of the complications and hijinks that such things can entail.

Every time that I think that I've finished this series, a new idea crops up.  For now (as usual) it's “Complete”... for a given value of complete. 😆

I've created / curated a lot of lore for my Amberverse over the years.

    Srsly, YDEK. 🙄

In the course of writing And We Are Merely Players, it's occurred to me that not everything needs to come out as part of the narrative. But some people dig on details, and I'm happy to oblige when I can.

So .. this is my Silmarillion, I guess. /lolshrug

    Bookmarker's Notes

Gotten through the first 4 chapters of "Hard Rain" (fascinating in 1-3, intense in 4), and this is some solid freakin' MilFic, tight writing, and in a fascinating world (Chronicles of Amber, if anyone else reads this bookmark note).  Fascinating mix of magic, psi, and science in a world that seems to be low on all three (I can't believe that I never hit Amber before this; I'll have to remedy that eventually).

Seriously: if you like Stargate, World of Tiers, Deryni, Network-Consortium, or a bunch of similarly huge themes (Grunts, to an extent), then this is worth checking out.  Just give it 2-3 chapters of one of the stories, and see how it grabs you.

Couples receive “parent points”, which they can use to purchase their children. Most parents wait for a few thousand, but the Carsons didn't want to wait. They chose to buy the cheaper, hundred-point child.

Sort of an inversion of “Ranks of bronze” (et seq.).  Also makes me think of Linda Evans's “Sleipnir” and Mary Gentle's “Grunts!”, though somewhat tangentially.

Rating bookmarked Reddit story as “T” due to some adult language and mention of suicide.

    Summary

Princess Azula believes that she was born to be Fire Lord, and ascending the throne is her only purpose. She rules through fear alone. Her own people fear her. Even her closest friends fear her. She has never truly experienced companionship that was not founded in fear. That is until, one day a young peasant girl enters her life when she approaches her to give her a fire lily.

Through this flower, Azula brings Elle back to the palace to serve as her handmaid. From there on an unlikely bond blossoms between two girls from separate worlds.

Azula soon finds herself undertaking a life-changing journey with her new servant to win the throne, and maybe even inadvertently save humanity while she is at it. Over the course of her odyssey she begins to discover her humanity, and she comes to experience what it feels like to be loved by another. And in turn Elle learns the meaning of courage, and most importantly she has finally found a home.

Neither of their lives will ever be the same again. Very slight AU.

Skimmed a couple of chapters briefly for now (>1M words), looks cool though - chapter 10 clinched it (bath scene).
