    Summary

He snarled, “I’m not leaving here without Mu Qing!”

“AND WHY DO YOU CARE SO MUCH!?” Even the echoes roared.

Unprocessing what was being said aligned against He Xuan's known personality, Feng Xin roared his answer.

“BECAUSE I CARE MORE ABOUT HIM THAN ANYONE IN HEAVEN HAS EVER CARED FOR ANOTHER.... NO! PLEASE. MU QING, I LO-.” A chilled hand covering his mouth cut him off. No! His heart cried. His eyes cried.

A touch to his forehead, and the darkness around him wasn’t just in his surroundings.

“Feng Xin, Feng Xin!” Pei Ming cried, “oh thank heaven!”

Why must you always go? His heart wept. I promised to go with you.

Feng Xin stomped and screamed; howled and snapped beams beneath his feet. He screamed until his voice was raw then continued even as it meant spitting his divine blood over the ruins of gold and wood. The god rampaged in his small area of the Heavenly Capital for days, for weeks. He bid no mind to time.

    .....

    Or:

Mu Qing has an unfortunate encounter with a spiraling water Calamity. The Heaven Bell rings his death, and his partner of over 800 years cannot deal.

    Summary

    "Is it okay?"

Mu Qing blinks. "Is...what okay?" He looks down at the fingers idly rubbing the embroidered ribbon that ties his braid, then back at Feng Xin. "This, or you being here, or...?"

Feng Xin shrugs again. "All of it."

The swift clarity of the answer his heart provides takes Mu Qing by surprise, but he doesn't let it show. At least, he doesn't think so. He swallows thickly, then nods. He doesn't say, "of course," but he could. Maybe someday he will, maybe next time Feng Xin asks.

Somehow, Feng Xin's grin brightens. There should be a law against smiles like his, Mu Qing thinks in a moment of what must be delirium.

    Summary

Feng Xin hadn’t gone online to find a prostitute. He hadn’t wanted to make an appointment with one, meet them in a hotel, eventually fuck them. None of this had been part of any plan, but after clicking around on some shady porn website, he’d been taken to a list of profiles. And at the very top, second row, fourth across, a familiar face peered at him. Brown eyes, long onyx-black hair, shoulders speckled with moles, Mu Qing had stared at him through his computer screen.

    Summary

They return to Feng Xin’s apartment that night, and Mu Qing hasn’t even taken off his coat or his shoes when Feng Xin drags him by the hand to come and stand inside the kitchen. Feng Xin is tall, but he has to stretch up on his toes to open one of the higher cabinets and pull something from the shelf—

A little box. Dark brown, like espresso, tied with a gold ribbon. He’s pressing it into Mu Qing’s hands, cheeks flushing red from what might not be the cold spring weather.

“...Feng Xin.” Mu Qing’s voice drops low, a warning—but his chest feels tight, and he has the sudden urge to squeeze past him, flee outside into the dark.

“I know,” Feng Xin answers hastily, looking down at the box as he presses it into Mu Qing’s hands. “I know. You said…”

“I don’t like sweet things,” Mu Qing finishes the sentence for him numbly.
