    It was a Friday in October, and MJ and Peter had been invited to a party. It was Cindy who had invited them, and she had invited them as a couple. And that changed things, as far as MJ was concerned.

    She snuck a glance at Peter, and their eyes met briefly because he’d done exactly the same thing and tried to look for her expression. He looked pleased, though, and that made something in MJ’s stomach flutter. Unpleasantly. (Not that unpleasantly.)

    “Sure”, she said to Cindy. “Sounds fun. We’ll come.”

    Things sort of deteriorate from there.
